stuff people already knew years before (warrantless wiretaping of phones and such, ot had been front page of the NYT and discuss very thoroughly before). But apparently everyone forgot about it because they acted like it was unknown, breaking new when snowden brought it up.

Basically the government has a record of all of your meta data from every electronic device you use, and if you communicate with anyone in another country they listen in on phone calls, read your texts and emails, and place you on a list, even if its with an individual in a friendly country, that is under no suspicion. They can map your entire internet life.
They could raid your house and read every piece of paper and everything you own, and not know as much about you compared to the simple meta data they gather on everyone.
