Can we have a thread about McCarthy? All I ever was taught about him in high school was that he caused the red scare and was a relatively terrible person. I would like to know the truth about him. Such as were there really as many communists as he was claiming? Was he actually a pretty cool dude? Did we not heed his warning effectively?

Nice trips. But really there is not a reliable source out there. All truth and history is muddled up. All I can find is that he caused a great sort of witch hunt in the sense. Which caused many people to be accused and arrested. So I ask were they actually commies or were they just accused as being one?
