Well back then it was kind of doable and the cultures were way more compatible. Less friction and major issues plus the immigrants actually worked. Like really damn fucking hard. It wasn't perfect but we managed pretty well.
Then you fast foward to today. immigration is a means to bypass needing to work now. At least in Europe, America hasn't gotten that bad yet I think. Probably are as bad. Now Europe is a real clusterfuck. You got highly clashing cultures, obvious physical differences, and probably most importantly the vast overwhelming majority of the migrants are horrible little shits that seem to be there only for free food and housing. And when they get bored they go off and kill someone for laughs.

We had occasionally allowances of new citizens, and then shut the boarders and allowed for a period of assimilation of several years before allowing anymore immigrants in.
Then in the 1980's the disastrous Simpson-Mazzoli Act was passed, and it has been a non-stop third world shitshow since then. A complete disaster.
Nobody even acknowledges how the immigration system was before, when it was better, because they were never fucking taught about it. All the do is sputter about how broken it is, when Simpson-Mazzoli and a refusal by Democrats to even enforce current laws are why the immigration system is the disaster it currently is.
