These guys pretty much have it right. Cities are ridiculously expensive to even rent a 1 bedroom flat, and rural areas are an economic wasteland barren of career opportunity. One basically has to live in a rural area and commute to the cities for work, which is a pain in the ass because our public transport (along with our internet, might I add) is underfunded and lagging behind a number of developed countries. It's hard enough without immigrants taking up more of our living space and jobs.
Also the heat is fucking awful, each summer being worse than the last.

Ok, you do your 9-12 month course and then you need to find an apprenticeship. Someone who will bring you on board for 4 months. This means you're specifically looking for a 1st Year apprenticeship in that field. There are not many of them around, most companys that do 1st year apprenticeships are very elite company's who only choose the best of the best. Furthermore, when employers are looking for apprentices they want people who are under 18 so they can pay them less for longer. Also, when an apprentice is chosen he usually has to do a 2 week free trial. And not many people pass the trial unless they are good workers with lots of experience because Australians are mean cunts who will kick you while youre down.

In regards to travelling mate it's probably a combination of three factors.
1. All of Australia has the same culture. Perth is 99% the same culturally as Sydney etc. It's not really exciting to fly 4 hours to land in a place more or less the same as where you already live.
2. It's expensive to travel around Australia. You can go to south east asia and it'll cost you no more then half of what it would cost for a comparable trip here.
3. Travelling is generally looked on favourably or at least neutrally by parents/employers/friends etc. If you're not at Uni and you are sick of work then it's seen as fine to go overseas for a while when you're young. I'd imagine in other cultures there's a lot more focus on saving money and buying a home and starting a family etc.
