It's not even 12%. Female generally don't commit many murders... so you're talking closer to 6%. And that includes children and the elderly. Now we'll leave the children, since niglets generally commit their first felony by age 8, but the old folk knock another few percent off.
You're left with a low single-digit percentage of the entire country's population being responsible for over half of the violent crime.
