I'm not a fan of Machiavelli personally. I just really like the Renaissance and was the first /pol/ figure I could think of that wasn't Hitler or Trump.

I haven't seen him mentioned on here before, so I'll say Casanova. It's a remarkable insight into life in 18th century Europe from a guy who associated with all of the notables and even a lot of royalty. Very deep and interesting character, and the womanizing is just what he's most famous for because the pop culture view of history is sensationalist and full of ADD.
His journals come to something like a dozen 400 to 700 page volumes but they don't contain a single dull spot nor any purple prose.

The Sickness Unto Death and the The Meditations.

It's the story of his life, completed at old age and published after his death. It's a first person account of his travels all over Europe and you learn a lot about customs and the personalities of names you'll recognize while he's doing the upper classes favors and getting into their graces by various means. He's a bit of a con man as well. Many observations on human nature as a product of him trying to run all these schemes and get into bed with the qt pies.
Stoicism is the way to go.
