The Art Renewal Center is devoted
to the following principles and beliefs

To create the largest on-line Museum on the internet, with hundreds of thousands of oversized high quality images of all the known works of the greatest painters and sculptors in human history, cross referenced to the largest encyclopedic online art reference library of historical texts, essays, biographies and articles

To promote a return of training, standards and excellence in the visual arts.

To provide responsible views opposing those of the current art establishment when warranted, especially as expressed in critiques of current art exhibitions, and in aesthetic philosophy.

To disseminate the rich artistic heritage of 2500 years of accumulated knowledge in creating traditional, realistic images touching upon universal and timeless themes.

To advance the understanding that Great Art begins with great themes and expresses them poetically through mastery of all aspects of technique.

To repudiate the idea that development in art requires destruction of boundaries and standards, pointless emphasis on 'newness,' or pursuit of the bizarre and ugly as ends in themselves, and to expose as artistic fraud those works conceived only to elicit outrage.

Great video. The art world does requires some objective standards to a degree, now that it's been completely devolved to nothing thanks to post-modernism. A blank void room can be considered "art" now.

I loved his point on transcendence. Every great piece of art throughout history shares that common thread.

You can't appreciate true beauty without knowing what to look for.

Renaissance art and Baroque art especially is full of symbols, themes, political contexts, analogies, and the like.

If you don't bother to want to know those things, you have but a casual interest in art and you could be considered a degenerate

>What can't be considered art this days?
Depends an who you ask and how you define "art." I'm far from a philosopher or an art expert, but I'll still talk about shit I don't know about. the question WHAT can be considered art isn't exactly the right question, you should be asking about mediums. Painting, sculpture and literature I don't think anyone would say isn't art. But I would also include things like Photography, Film and Video Games (more on that one later). To me art has to evoke some sort of emotional reaction in the viewer and have no practical value. So something like architecture isn't exactly an artistic medium, since it has practical value. But people often think that just because something is "art" means that it's GOOD art. Most of the paintings in this thread are GOOD art, but the paintings in >>38897337 are clearly BAD art. La Pieta is GOOD art, but that sculpture of a buttplug in France is BAD art. The Brothers Karamazov is GOOD art, but Twilight is BAD art. The Godfather is GOOD art, but Twilight is BAD art. Okami is GOOD art, but Drake of the 99 Dragons is BAD art.

Now, I need to stop spewing shit, and get back to dumping GOOD art.

Well really what I meant by "practical use" was something like a building or a tool. For example I wouldn't consider >>38899054 to necessarily be "art" It's certainly beautiful and impressive, but it's a helmet. Helmets are practical as fuck. Vidya on the other hand is entertainment, and I would consider most entertainment art (NOT always good art, though). And it's arguable whether entertainment has a practical use or not, but I personally think not.
