I've been analysing this gawker and gamergate situation and debating this with my professor.
It's pretty obvious how horribly corrupt the gawker media empire is.
Despite this, they are effectively fighting using "obfuscation" tools and red herrings.
One of their primary methods of attacks seems to be to deflect any criticism by saying any dissenters "hate women" .
This movement can succeed because it is in fact backed by truth and there is documented evidence of their abuses.
e.g. all the bullying articles gawker publishes
Unfortunately because of their highly successful tried and true tactics to distort facts there is a possibility they could still turn this around if they are backed by their mainstream media allies and continue bogging down the discussion and drowning out the "ethics" part.
So if i may suggest to you all the idea of pushing the journalistic integrity angle in a unified voice.
