Russian here. Growing up, I used to listen to liberals, who painted America as the country of freedom. I used to accept it as a given and thought that Russia was just an oppressive regime. But the more I learned about today's America, the more I saw parallels which seemed impossible to me.
Back when Ukrainian Maidan was happening, Russian media constantly painted it as a rise of fascism, and I thought it was completely nonsensical. But now I see US media portrays Trump as Hitler, and in fact any argument against immigration is seen only as neo-nazism.
Most Russian media is controlled by state. Yes, there's a lot of propaganda, but no one ever defends illegal immigrants. Now back to US. What I completely don't get is how "diversity", which isn't even a word in Russia, has become the dogma in US. Every TV show, movie (and now every video game, it seems) has to have minorities "represented". IT sphere is under fire because Tyrone and women not liking STEM is apparently their fault.
Everything has to be injected with fags and niggers, and if it's not, it's… "problematic"? US is now one censor state which Orwell couldn't even imagine. How the hell can this be happening in US—country with "small" government and freedom of speech, based on the idea of personal freedom, a country where Ayn Rand used to be praised as one of the greatest thinkers? A country which kicked the commies out in the early XXth century, then helped drive them to extinction?
And finally: nowadays in US, you can get your life ruined if you say anything against minorities. What happened to the freedom of speech? I know it's only legal concept, but it seems you can get literally harassed for any claim that is even remotely anti-minority, and the law will be against you. How is this freedom of speech?
That's for starters. What happened, America? Where the fuck were you when you country was turning into USSR?
