He was poling the highest but cruz and kasich tried to agree to a alliance which could theoretically have tipped it over. And it seems that ether less trump supporters come out to vote as the pols would suggest, possibly because he's bringing new people in who might be less likely to bother. Or they switch vote at the last moment in fear. Or the other candidates spend more on their ground game, making sure they show up.
