The ABC has seen a warrant which suggests police are casting a wide net in their investigation.
It names Senator Stephen Conroy, staffers, technology bloggers and four major media organisations including the ABC.
The document says the AFP were searching for information relating to:
Labor Senator Stephen Conroy
Two Labor staffers
The NBN
Other mobile numbers and internet addresses
Major media organisations including the ABC
The warrant refers to a “yet unidentified Commonwealth officer” communicating documents relating to the NBN to a Labor staffer “contrary to section 79(6) of the Crimes Act”. This section of the Act relates to leaking of Commonwealth information.
The document authorises the AFP to access any “storage device... manual, instruction, password or other thing which is needed to gain access”.
In an updated statement from NBN Co, it stated that the company was assisting
