Hey /po/! What are some ways you've used paper to fix objects you need everyday?

I need gloves for work, I forgot them at home one day. Made mittens out of paper. Worked wonderfully

how did you manage that one anon

Well.. I don't know if this counts but.. there was this exposed side of the house, realized I had those huge "engineering paper", so I used them. Had a broken table leg, used paper, realized that guests didn't have plate mats, so I used those Valentine's paper wrapper as mats and coasters. There was also this Garfield Bag that could also double as a bib, but I never got to use it.

I too would like to know anon

I glued a few sheets together, let it harden into a 1mm thick plate, and pasted it over hole in the door.
It works :)
also sounds like beating a drum when you press on it

Op, your glasses repair is really cool. I fixed my floppy ikea lamp with paper. I built some plotter components of cardstock, sort of repair? Have glued paper to sandpaper that was too thin, and often use paper as shims to align tools.

I woodwork as my job now, so I make and repair everything with wood. I encourage you all to try to work with wood because it is such a great material and the skills to work it are the same as paper, basically. Solid wood is SO cheap compared to metal/composites/etc. It glues together easily and will last centuries if kept dry and not on fire. It's strong enough to make axe handles and ladders and airplanes. It's no substitute for papercraft, but it's really good for making useful things you want. It also works well in conjunction with paper/cloth, e.g. shoji screens, lamp shades, painting canvas, old style airplane fuselages, etc.

If you live in not desert, there are tree fragments all over. I found a lil tree trunk in a mulch pile when I lived in big city in the desert. Small pieces you can carve spoons and chopsticks from. I could go on for a long time, but instead I will sleep so I can make wooden things tomorrow. I know this isn't /diy/, but I can't stand that board. /po/ is much more skilled and DIY at heart, I think. Xoxo

I forgot my cup-mute for band one day and made one in study hall.

I too use paper and card-stock as shims for my wood tools. Check out this site for some wooden projects: http://woodgears.ca/

I'm building his bandsaw design at the moment, I work on it every day. Have made other projects of his too. I want to make blowers and a pantorouter in the coming years. Matthias changed my life a little bit. Maybe a lot. I quit working in machine shops not long after I started watching his videos.

here is the base to a flexible ikea lamp. The stalk was too flexible, so I wrapped it with paper and glue.

My old-school ds lite had a chip in the plastic body at the hinge, revealing the space where the axle of the top screen hinges on. Used paper to cover hole and prevents the top screen from falling out. Works like a (paper) charm.
