Can you guys make anything that's actually useful, instead of folded trash that just take up desk space?
You completely missed the point of papercraft.
Yes, I mostly make practical things. Envelopes in special sizes or of recycled paper, boxes for organizing and shipping, templates for woodwork and machining, sewing patterns, lamp shades, drafting templates, photo mats, bound books, thread spools, laminated cardboard machine components, and many others.
The skills required for papercraft have much overlap with those required for other disciplines. Sheet metal fabrication, other fabrication, sewing/patternmaking, woodwork, machining, graphic art, prototype development, printmaking, and I'm sure dozens of others.
Most people have abandoned manual skill and knowledge of mathematics in favor of complete reliance on computers. In many cases this is an advantage. That said, when it comes time to actually produce practical items in the real world, those who can calculate, measure, mark, and cut well are the ones who get it done.
