Hey guys, are Pop-Up Books welcome here?
I'm currently in the process of making one for my girlfriend as a Christmas present.
Has anyone had experience engineering this sort of stuff?
Do you guys want to see what I've made so far?
Please let me know if this post shouldn't be here for any reason.

yes

there is an other thread about a gundam pop up book on the board right now, maybe you can take a look at this thread first.

yes, why not.
OP here, so here's a picture of my storyboard. The book has no words, and is just a simple comic of two cats killing a moth.
Here's my first page. Its just a simple layer over a background. I know the painting looks like shit, I'm no painter, just trying to focus on mechanics right now though.
My second page has one cats head rising up over the page. I used reflective ribbon for the eyes.
Now the third page is one I have been really struggling with. The scene is supposed to be a small black cat wrapping herself around the bad guy's legs. I can't figure out a mechanic that will make this page nice. So far I've tried: a simple 'textured' page with touchable fluffy material,
I've also tried a 'paper slinky' across the page that stretches out as you open the book.
I also thought of a cutout cat on a string that the reader can place over the baddies legs. What mechanic do you guys think should be employed for this scene? I want it to depict a black cat, stretching unreasonably long in order to wrap around someone's legs and trip them over. Any ideas?
Bumping one time for my homie's in the gel.
I like your book. I like the minimal colour pallet. Your painting technique will improve with practice. Creative!

pull tab with the legs on top and when pulled the cat is revealed around the legs?

I'm not completely sure what you mean.
Like a sliding panel that changes from bare legs to cat-entangled legs?

Thats what it sounds like to me. Maybe not a pull-tab, imo, since its a popup book it should just happen. Its your book though, do what you want.
