The width of the strips used for those was about 1/12", if you wanna make some that size. (it was ~1/3 of 1/4", i got it from the edge of some graph paper/lined paper combo)

Really fucking thin paper, needles, and a magnifying glass. You can try separating the foil from a gum wrapper, cutting it, and practicing on that.
