So I've seen a few commentators suggest only using a prime 50mm as a way to challenge yourself.

So I wandered around the woods for a while, and tried my hand at it - I'm fairly pleased with results, but I'd love to hear your feedback.

Also, anyone else tried something similar? Pretty tricky to capture a landscape with 50mm I found.

Almost always shoot random stuff with 30mm lens(1.6crop). Nice bokeh is ideal for snapshits, focus length is versatile and this thing is light and durable.

So wrong time of day then? I'll try to get back there during an evening. I did quite like the light coming through the leaves, but yeah, need to vary it up a bit.

The problem with the light on a day like that is that, if you're in both shadows and light, part of your exposure spectrum is going to suffer. Look at the first pic. Those trees are fairly dark, and yet you've still got those highlights in the center of the frame blown completely out.

Also, that bright light really fucks with colors in an unpleasing way, especially in the summer. It turns everything a hazy yellow-green.

Shoot for early morning if you want even or softer light. Or, better year, wait for an overcast day.
>>
I never git anything gud when I'm walking around with a 50 on a crop sensor. I have trouble using it for anything but portraits. Try out a 35 (50 equivalent). The reason 50s came on every single film slr ever is because at that frame size it's a "normal" lens.
>>
I find that landscapes in the summer woods are brutally hard to make interesting.

50mm perspective is naturally "boring" and ordinary, so all the spice has to come from other things. You didn't find a lot of spice, so there's not a lot of keepers to be had. Still, it's fun to go out and shoot.

>>2873806
This might have potential - not sure the placement of the tree is ideal

>>2873846
The light is interesting - not sure about the horizon and perspective here -
>>
>>2873799
how can you challenges yourself with such a common and, some would say, normal focal length?
>>
>>2873859
Nice advice, thank you

>>2873865
I'm using a 35mm 1.8 dx, so close to a true 50

>>2873872
Yeah it was good fun, but yeah I'll keep looking for good details

>>2873894
It's not the norm for landscapes, and I found it particularly difficult in a forest, which would suit wider lenses to capture whole scenes. Still, good fun to limit yourself.
>>
One if the easiest things to do to improve your photos is to shoot from some place other than eye-level. Get higher, or preferably, as low as possible.

You did it with that bridge, and that was maybe the best one. When you're shooting that creek, you should be an inch away from the water.
>>
Remember when I had the whole board do the 50mm Challenge?
>>
>>2873957
Good ideas, thanks for the tip!

Just got a new a6000 and an MD 50mm

my biggest issue so far aside from getting used to manual focus and aperture is finding interesting things to take photos of. I tried find interesting compositions in my backyard and this is the best I got.

I remember that.
I remember that you talked about your gear and then bitched when people weren't impressed.
I'm a little fuzzy on the part where you actually posted some fucking photos, you worthless attentionwhoring little bitch.
Leave this guy's thread alone.
