i just got some really old film developed, and it turns out it was all useless. none of the film was useable as it was REALLY old, expired in 1974.
how old is too old? i also have a roll that expired in 1960, no chance of using that either right?
maybe i shot with it incorrectly, like with too short of an exposure? it was 200 ISO so probably shoot at like a quarter of that?
has anyone else shot with expired film?

I've used a lot of (coincidentally) 1974 Tri-X. I use the +1 overexposure per decade rule and it works out fine. OP problem is probably E4 process.
the oldest thing I ever shot is ektachrome 100, most of it expired around 1995 and I only recently shot and cross processed it in c41

normal c41. on some rolls I tried to bleach a little longer to get rid of the rest of the tint on the mask but it didn't change a lot
