Cool camera bro.
Love the GR, but do you think that having a LCD screen for framing a shot is a bit shit when there is strong sunlight?
I've had mine for like two months soon. It's awesome, goes into my pocket and gets shot every day. Got it used for pretty cheap (it's the GR, not GRII).
I've got D U S T that I haven't bothered to fix yet because I'm lazy. I think the issue is a bit exaggerated, but it's definitely there and easy to get.
>>2837335
This scene is worthy to investigate further. Try and find a better angle.
>>2837349
GRII doesn't have that problem.
>>2837439
It really does.
>>2837440
Meh, who cares? The Fuji X70 is out now, anyway.
i shot these with a gr3

Its a cool little camera. I stick it in my jersey pocket when biking sometimes.
I think I actually like my iphone more for point and shoot over the GR3
its kinda cool the gr definitely has a look to it...like a low budget 35mm film camera
the screen on it has got all this weird greenish discoloration and it takes forever to record images sometimes
I have a gr ii. I quite like it.

Says no one at all.
Nowhere.
It possess the same build defect of insufficient or just plain crappy sealing that make the GR line more prone to dust intake than other collapsible lens compacts.
They didn't change fundamental build quality with the II, they just slapped wifi on and that's pretty much it.
>>2837538
Is the build quality really worse? I'm inclined to believe that the dust is just more noticeable in the GR than in other similar compacts, not that the GR has any more dust than normal.
The GR has a larger sensor than most compacts, which increases the visibility of dust. It's aimed at photographers rather than casual users, so the camera is more likely to be carried around in a bag every day rather than being safely left at home most of the time. More serious users probably pay more attention and would be more likely to notice dust, and have been spoiled by the fact that pretty much every interchange lens camera has had automatic ultrasonic sensor cleaning for years. A GR will probably see a lot more shutter actuations and lens extension cycles in its lifetime than most compacts.
>>2837538
Nice hate speech there mate. Do you know what is the biggest difference between a GR and a Sony?
The GR has lens.
>he's a memeatic photographer shooting the memeiest of all meme subjects - street
>he needed to buy the shittiest meme camera for his memehobby
OP? You're a meme.
time grinds away mountains
grinds them to dust
said dust inexorably finds its way into every single ricoh gr * camera, of any version

it really needs to be emphasized how bad and memeatic street photography / ricoh gr* owners are tho

enjoy your dust kiddo
streetfags and ricohshills are a cancer - not nearly as bad a cancer as sonyshills, but definitely a cancer on /p/
>>2837445
lens is soft as fuck though
Most street photographers dont use the GR, it's not small and the focus isnt snappy enough.
Taken the GR apart for the third time a couple of weeks ago. The dust sealing is fucking pathetic and may as well not even be there to make sensor cleaning easier.
>>2837784
>it's not small
....wut
It's literally like the most discreet you can get and it literally fits comfortably in your pocket.
>>2837682
Isn't this more like "urban landscape" or architectural photography though? When I hear "street photography" I think of candid shots of people and stuff like that.

>>2837616
There's more than one DIY dust cleaning tutorial for the GR. I've done it and yes, the sealing solution is lame BUT I did notice quite a bit of dust outside so it does something.
Or you could listen to our resident GR triptard and exaggerate the problem.
>>2837795
I wouldn't say comfortably but at least it fits.
>>2837853
>I wouldn't say comfortably but at least it fits.
When I put my GR in my pocket I don't even notice it's there.
>>2837858
It doesn't disappear nearly as well as a smartphone or wallet. It's literally thicker than 3 iphones. Still worth carrying tho

Fuji X30? It's not as good as the Ricoh GR or Fuji X70, though, neither of which have a built in viewfinder, but can be purchased separately.
>>2838017
>Fuji X30
Neither have an OVF nor an APS-C sensor. X10/20 had an OVF but still a shitty sensor.
>>2837965
X100/s/t are the only compacts with an OVF and an APS-C size sensor i believe. Others either have an EVF or smaller sensor. But you can always put a little external OVF at Nikon A, Ricoh GR or Fuji X70 for framing.

>>2838045
Used x100 if you really want a build-in OVF is the only way for you. Otherwise used Sony RX100III/IV with EVF and 1" sensor is a good choice as well and it truly pocketable in comparison with X100 which is honestly huge as hell.
>>2838045
The Fuji X70 and Ricoh GR both have an APS-C sized sensor, they just don't have a viewfinder. You can purchase a viewfinder to stick into the hot shoe for both cameras, though.
>>2838045
>>2838052
On top of that, none of the cameras in the Fuji X100 line up are "compact." The Fuji X70 will fit in your pocket. Not very comfortably, but it will.
Not only that, the Fuji X100T sells brand new for $1300 while the X70 sells brand new for $700 and they are the exact same camera.
Same sensor, same processor. Here are the key differences that you personally might be worried about:
- No viewfinder on the X70
- The X100T has a 35mm equivalent lens
- The X70 has a 28.8mm equivalent lens
+ The X70 has a tilting touch screen LCD screen
Other than that, they are the exact same. If I were you, I'd go the route of the X70 and purchase an OVF with the $600 I'd save to put in the hot shoe.
>>2838065
So they're exactly the same except for all the really major differences? Huh.
>>2838073
Those are aesthetic/niche differences.
The only "major" difference I listed is the lens's focal length.
>>2838082
A viewfinder is not an aesthetic difference, it is a MAJOR design and usability difference.
A different focal length is not a niche difference. 35mm to 28mm is noticeably different.
The size is also a major difference in use, in terms of comfort, portability, etc.
>>2838088
I didn't say the focal length wasn't a major difference, in fact, I said it WAS a major difference.
I still say a viewfinder is a niche difference. I would say it was major if there wasn't a GIANT VIEWFINDER ON THE BACK SHOWING ME WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT.
When I said it's same camera, you're getting the same processor and the same sensor for $600 less.
A viewfinder can be purchased for the hot shoe with the money you saved.
Viewfinders are niche. Not everybody feels the need to have or use one.
>The size is also a major difference in use
Yes, and the person asking about this said they want a COMPACT camera. The X100T is NOT compact. The X70 IS.
>>2837992
Yeah buddy.
I'm shooting a Fed 2.
Every 5-6 shots I get unequal exposure across the frame I don't get it.
>>2838098
There is not a GIANT VIEWFINDER ON THE BACK there is a small screen that you view from a foot away hoping there's no glare behind you, and hoping you don't need to use a slow shutter speed because your three point stabilization stance is now two arms waving around out in space. Using a glossy fingerprint covered LCD on the back of your camera is a downgrade from a dedicated viewfinder. Yes, it's cheaper, but to say it's the same thing is retarded.
>>2838098
X100 is compact. It's only marginally larger than my LX3. I have like four compacts and a DSLR, and my x100s is definitely a compact when you look at all these cameras side by side, especially because the lens is very low profile.
>>2838137
It's marketed as a compact camera, but there is nothing compact about it. It does not fit in your pocket. It's not easily concealable. It's like the size of my X-Pro 2.
>>2837333
Wow din't realize the GR was this wide. Would nicely complement my sigma dp3
>>2838141
>but there is nothing compact about it
Feel free to compare it against the size of a 5Dmk3 with a 35mm prime on it, for dimensions and weight.
>>2837471
I'm on B&H's website and see that the GR II is $629. wasn't this thing $500 only a couple weeks ago, what's with the price increase?
Everyone mentioning the x70 as if it's a viable alternative, well, lens issues aside (it's not as good a 18mm as the GR), it also doesn't have a built in ND filter.
Why fuji decided this was a good oversight, who knows.
GR is still fucking dusty though, that's a true meme.
Wanted to switch to an x70 because I'd like a compact with fuji's jpegs but it's just not good enough.
GR it is, for now.
Isn't there some Nikon alternative out soon?
>>2838297
>Why fuji decided this was a good oversight, who knows.
They've since implemented the electronic shutter which can go up to 1/32,000. Not much need for an ND at that speed.
