A 5d2 will yield exactly the same results as a D800 unless you're working on something that absolutely needs those 36mp, which is a very little marginal field of use.
All that talk about dynamic range... is noticeable only in a studio. If you have to pull out more than 4 stops from your photo, the problem is behind the camera. Remember that we're talking about shadows, it's not DR in absolute terms.

I think people are mistaking Canon's (former, since the 80d) APSC sensors with their FF sensors. The only "limit" they have is that if you pull too many stops from the shadows, you get banding noise which Sony sensors do not get.
But that's completely irrelevant in real field use.

Is piss poor dynamic range, meaning you're gonna lose a lot more shots to a slightly off exposure. Let's not forget this is something that's been a point of criticism for Canon ever since Sony came out with it's 16MP APS-C sensor.
And there FF stuff has the same flaws as APS-C
