What is with the current trend of accessorising the FUCK out of cameras?
Seems like everyone these days has some sort of soft release button, artisanal Leather wrist strap, got shoe cover made from rare hardwood, and taping over every logo?
Does this make their photography better or something? Seems like male jewellery to me.

True gearfags would never ever tape over the brand name/logos on their cameras.

It's a mental illness that only Fuji owners possess. Some sort of weird Leica envy probably. Never see this with Sony shooters,

How's your experience with it? How does it compare to a manual film rangefinder?
I love my artisan and artist silk strap. I just wrap it around my hand 3 times and it securely holds my camera. you should try it out OP.
>>2822629
Honestly it feels damn close to using an uncoupled rangefinder minus moving your eye between two windows
You press the back dial to zoom to the zoomed evf for focus check which goes back to the ovf automatically when you press the shutter. So frame then focus.

>>2822666
It looks like that would make it obtrusive when they could have just added a front side grip and made the battery bigger.
>>2822668
I was referring to the former owner(s). I purchased it quite cheap because it was so beat up, the hotshoe has been knocked off of it and glued back on before. Incapable of ETTL as a result. I know that at least the owner before me managed to drop it down a flight of stairs, which is where a lot of the dings probably come from.
I've only dropped it once, and it was a doozy. Setting it up on a tripod on top of my car, it slipped, smacked top-first into the ground. Got a nice ding in the viewfinder housing but otherwise fared it well.
Plenty of grip for me, but I know some of you fags have limp fingers and need a big rubber dildo to maintain your feeble grasp. :^)

before this thread i had no idea putting little things on your shutter button was a thing
>>2822693
well, welcome to /p/ then!
>>2822693
I disliked it, style wise, but found that it makes the button feel better, in the case of my X-T1. The shutter button is small, so a soft release helps it to feel better for me. It's grown on me.
Some companies make custom hotshoe covers. Check out Artisan Obscura to be wowed. Haha
>>2822693
thats because its not a thing for most digital cameras.
it was always a thing for film cameras. retro digital cameras have the threading for it, so people use them.
>>2822699
>it was always a thing for film cameras
I don't recall seeing them even once in film days. Never saw them in camera shops, never saw them advertised in photography magazines either (there was no internet). The only thing I ever saw being screwed into the shutter button back then was a cable release. And that was purely functional.
>>2822775
they existed then too, you just didnt notice. tom abrahamson has shilled them for decades.
in some circumstances, they make slower speeds more handholdable.
>>2822699

>>2822565
Stop samefaggig this Tyler the Creator quote on every thread, you 15 year old faggot
>>2822807
But also why do only half of my cable releases work on my x100s?
Soft releases/hotshoe covers/blacking out logos are definitely a fad at the moment.
It's just for gear fetishists, unless your shutter release button is complete ass (Fuji...) they are totally unneeded.
No idea what the fuck hotshot covers are even necessary for besides converting your retro-analog-styled(tm) digital camera into a piece of pseudo-aggrandising camera bling.
And no, blacking out your camera logo does not make it stealth, you are still raising a hunk of black metal and plastic to your face, everyone notices.
>>2822813
I got one of those hotshoe cover grip things and it actually gives a little better grip. I used it quite some time, but recently needed my hotshoe for its original purpose.
Got a soft release button on all my cameras as I like my shutter release to be the same height as the speed dial.

This. Also they're quite useful with all mechanical cameras that have very sticky shutter pulls and horrible, finger maiming buttons (Praktica, Zenit). It's the same thing as shooting hobbyists modifying their gun's trigger mechanism and why there are a billion and one different shaped triggers for any given firearm available. This isn't to say that hipster nu-males weren't using them simply to look cool and "pro", but they do have utility value.

Just ordered an Xpro 2 with an artisan amd artist strap, a grip and a matching mahogany hotshoe cover and shutter release set before I saw this thread. I feel a bit silly forgetting the gaffer's tape to cover the logos now

I use one of the rubber bubble ones on my Canon so I don't have to worry about it wearing into the fabric of my pocket.

My old tripod doesn't have bubble level, so I just bought one for the hotshoe
Male jewellery is a good term. Males have this problem where they really want to be bling bling, but they still need some excuse to wear it, the excuse usually being about functionality. Most people who buy a fancy quick-release padded strap for 300$ (jesus fucking christ) for example, probably do not actually carry their camera around all day taking pictures, and thus do not ever experience the supposed strain from carrying a camera around with the factory strap.
I don't see any problem with it though. If it makes people feel better and doesn't contribute to some form of degeneracy, who cares.

>>2823498
>texas leica
>poor man's leica
>budget leica
The GW690 is probably better than any leica. I have nothing against leica. It just puts a camera as a second place to something that has nothing to do with it. I think it discredits great cameras by making such comparison. If my camera was called something like that I couldn't let it go like most people would. I really wish it didn't bother me.
I think it's an insult to the camera and the camera owner.
>>2823518
Texas Leica is appropriate considering the size. It's a giant rangefinder and Leica is a sort of metonym for rangefinder.
>>2823520
I understand the name. There are many other large rangefinders cameras and the GW690 is the only one that is called that.
>>2823470

>>2823535
>There are many other large rangefinders cameras
There really aren't. Mamiya and probably a couple niche brands. Most of the others have reasonable handgrips but the 690 and 670? don't which makes them look like giant Leicas.

They work great. Fujis are designed to control aperture on the lens, so putting an old manual lens on them works perfectly. The MF assist features are great. The only thing you might be unhappy with is the balance, as the flange distance is so short, your adapter adds quite a bit of "dead space" onto the middle of the setup. You can speed-boost the FD mount though, which can be very nice.
>>2824732
isi's adapter says "fotasy L39-FX"
fujis are good with adapters, they're somewhat meant to be used that way. Fujifilm makes an official Leica-Fuji adapter.
>>2824732
I've been using cheap third-party adapters (~$10-$20 each) from eBay on both my Sony and the Fuji for years now. They work great, are robust and provide the extra of flange distance needed.
I currently have/use three different adapters on my X-Pro1; FD, M42 and MD to FX.
>>2824732
If you aren't adding any lens elements, pretty much any adapter will do just fine. It's just a dark tunnel with two different mounts on it. Not much to screw up. When you start adding contacts for data, or lens elements for flange distance or speed boosting, then you have to worry. Otherwise though, get the cheapest thing you can find and have a blast.
