What should I know as a newcomer to /p/ ?
I have been lurking for a couple of days, but I struggle with some of the lingo. Great board though. Maybe one day I will dare to post a pic of my own.

Hi, and welcome to /p/! You'll get the hang of things here in no time, and find us all a friendly and agreeable bunch of folks. To understand threads here in full and avoid getting called out for asking silly questions, learn the relationship between ISO/aperture/shutter speed, the basic rules of artistic composition, and the fundamentals of image post-processing (photoshop).

Then, try eating something with a LOT of artificial colouring in it and throwing up outside on a sunny day, to get something that looks and lot like your OP image.

And resize your shit.

1) The board is very harsh.
2) Not everyone knows what they're talking about. Take everything you read with a heap of salt and do your own research when you can.
3) 99% of the basic shit of photography is in your camera's manual. Almost everything else will be on wikipedia or in the first five hits on any relevant google search.
4) Most bloggers aren't reliable sources of information.
5) Youtube is a dead end.

I'd add to this that the people who are most vocal about their opinions tend to be the least well-informed.
