So typical of the BW mindset
"It's shit, let's just convert it to black and white"
Get that through your head: BW is even worse. Removing colors doesn't fix anything. It might comfort you to say that it enhances texture and other bullshit of that order, but no. Removing colors just means you're shit with colors. You're shit, and your taste is shit.

I know I shouldn't blame the equipment, but focusing on this shitty lens is a fucking nightmare. 50mm photography isn't something I do often.

The same reason the sony zeiss and the otus are 55mm. The same reason the nikon is a 58mm. You assume your consumer is pretty stupid. If you release a these lenses as 50mm most people will wonder why they cost 4-10x as much as a regular 50mm f1.8 or even a 50mm f1.4. You need consumers to know and have a use for the VC and sharpness of the lens. Most lenses are not actually the focal length they are marketed as. Most 50mm lenses can be anywhere between 48-52mm but they are sold as 50mm because that is what people are looking for.

I prefer 55 on my Mamiya.

35mm or 120?

No, he actually has a point. Shit's definitely a bit blurry, but it isn't out of focus. Looks like some kind of weird jpeg compression that a lot of these new mirrorless cameras use to save micro-SD card space.

Adding on to that, lighting could also be a lot better though it's understandable why you'd want to keep a short exposure and no flash when taking pictures of dogs.
