peeps on this board need to learn how to edit. Digital is impossible without editing chops. No professional photographer would ever call an image complete out of camera. Whereas editing is used in place of digital processing most often.

Welcome! Great choice of location! It looks really interesting! The mood of the shot is also pretty nice and "atmospheric" if you will. I do wish that the stuff sticking up out of the water were exposed a lot more since right now, they're standing there like the subject of the shot, but I'm unable to look at them. A low exposure would be okay, but blacked out as they are, it's jarring against the otherwise soft and misty look of the rest of the scene.

Thanks for the feedback. I understand wanting the things in the water to be more exposed, however with the time of day the light was sadly just not with me to do so. Instead of having them very dark with minor detail I instead opted to have them pretty much blacked out. Looking back on it now I agree that it would be better more exposed on those things. Not bad man I like it, simple composition with a nice subject. I'd crop/clone out that tree branch in the bottom left though, it's a bit distracting.
Also it's a little underexposed. Unless you were trying to catch him in flight, then there's no real reason to be shooting at 1/500sec. You could have used a slower shutter speed which would have given better exposure.

Thank you for the advice, and as I said, I'm a newbie, and have yet to really mess around a whole lot with my camera that I got like a day or two before taking that picture.
I'm still learning about all of this photography stuff, but I do think it's enjoyable.

If you haven't already, read up on and watch some youtube videos about Aperture, ISO, and Shutter Speed. Once you learn the basics of how those three work together, you'll be taking well exposed images in no time.

I live here. My favorite thing about this state is that if you just drive for a couple hours, you can see nearly all the different biomes. Drive south and you'll see desert. West and you'll see snow capped mountains and canyons like this. East you'll find piney woods and Gulf beaches. North, well nothing much but snow and wind turbines up there. Central Texas is cool too with caverns and springs everywhere.

Dev was rodinal, for 7 minutes at 68 degrees. Film was 100 ISO Fomapan, I think. As of late, though, I've been shooting x-ray for the cost factor. X-ray's fun but scratches very, very, very easily.

thanks for your input. i don't really care if people see me taking their picture desu, i've taken and posted here a number of pix here right in people's faces, i just found these four to be my favorite i took last night.
separating people from the background is something i've struggled with tho. i try to have background to offer some amount of framing i don't know that it's always (or ever) successful. i'm a newb photographer but getting in people's personal space doesn't bother me.
