The thread reeks of you trying to please /p/ strange and pointless lust for boring straight-on shots of doors and trashbins.
Some of the time you come close too but is this really what you want to do with your photography?
>>
Why do all of these images seem blurry, low contrast, and un-finished? Is that a look you're going for intentionally?
>>
>white borders

IT'S SPREADING
>>
>>2769771
I took shots like this since I started. usually /p/ calls them boring snapshots

>>2769774
Did not add contrast or saturation in post. Only changed the white balance in some after scanning. Sometimes the grain was quite obvious, maybe reducing it caused what consider blurry.
>>
>>2769790
1cm borders at 20x30cm considering printing and matting. Those are resized versions.

I feel this thread is what you'd get if Carlos and 0x0 taught photography to a child with a mental disorder, and he started posting at 1000px instead of 600px like they said to.

So basically these threads are just you posting some photos nobody really cares for, everyone voicing that fact, and then you trying to respond, all while exposing the flaws of your own images. I mean maybe someone out there likes these threads but maybe use the recent photos thread?

I posted from my mobile in here, so just 4 left. Seems like at least one cared to post in here twice.. wonder who that was.
Maybe you should mind your own business and accept that people posting more than 5 photos in RPT are told to make their own thread.

how long did it take you to come up with that awesome comparison?
>>

I suppose if you can't offer a real rebuttal, someone else's words will do.

>>2769738

This one, specifically, should have been left on your hard drive, although you seem to repeat this framing problem in all of your shots. You need to decide whether you want to be american or german, because this ain't working.
>>
>>2769927
Or more likely, you aren't putting in any effort into your photos, and it's very obvious from looking at them. It's like you're leaving the house, and telling yourself that you can't come home again until you've take 15 photos, and so you're forcing it all over the place. You don't even care about your own photos enough to have processed them before presenting them.

They're cluttered, forced, boring, and unfocused (both in subject, and literally out of focus)
>>
>>2769964
>I suppose if you can't offer a real rebuttal, someone else's words will do.
What am I supposed to answer a comment like >>2769925?

I don't get the "German/American" part. What is the problem regarding my framing? This is a serious question, so I'd really appreciate if you'd take some time and would give me some advice/hint on a shot you pick.

>>2769965
appreciated critique - really! Apart from the boring and unfocused aspects, what would you suggest regarding "cluttered" and why do you consider them to be "forced"? Regarding "forced" I'm not sure if you mean the part you mention before, or forced in any other way.
>>
>>2769963
it wasn't a compliment. I Think you should more concentrate in shots with a meaning and not a building or whatever in the middle of nowhere, Egglestone has a much more composition and somehow a meaning in his pictures. You are the drivinglicense employee who don't fit in the style but think he must do it.
>>
>>2769734
>>2769738
These are my favorites. Idk why but the scans look rather mushy to me. Did you activate stuff like grain reduction during scanning?
>>
>>2769971
I didn't take it as a compliment. I just wondered about why a "drivelicense employee".
>>
>>2769973
thanks. I did after the first 12 scans.. going to test without next time.
>>
>>2769974
because the most of them want to help but hate their work, there are so deep in their own mind, there dosen't take a look from another view. You look like someone, who really minds his work, but you are to deep in photography rules you know? You make very specific work.
>>
>>2769977
I see. What software/scanner were/are you using? The whole thing reminds me of my shitty Epson V370 which cannot into sharp scanning of 35mm negatives at all.
>>
>>2769978
so you mean I'm applying e.g. compositional "rules" too strict?
My photos always get called snapshots around here, but it took me about 10mins to get >>2769724 for example. All these shots were taken on Sundays (stores closed, only few people working on Sunday), I walked around, tried different framings, checked that I got rid of the lantern pole on the right and wished I could go a little back (there was a street leading to the nearby highway). When I was ready to take the shot, some car came along and parked right in front of the building. Went back to my car and waited until that lady drove away.

>>2769983
Epson Perfection 3200 + Epson scan. This scanner is so old, I had to hack the driver to get it running.
>>
Finally somebody that is able to work in a series. These never work on /p/ because you people are plebs, you know nothing about that kind of photography and that's ok. But don't call it boring, not knowing that this is a compliment in here. keep to your gear talk and post in your recent pictures thread.

These pictures are dull, boring, everyday life. So OP got exactly what he wanted. On their own these pictures wouldn't work, but look at the Subject "Sundays" and now look at the pictures again. These are boring and dull because Sundays are boring and dull.

These pictures don't need fancy light, high contrast and nice colors to work because they don't convey anything exciting, they just represent Sundays. They reminded me so much about the small town I grew up in, where everything closed on Sunday and there was nothing to do at all. This is german life in a nutshell everywhere except the big cities.

That being said:
The series could be cut down to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8
8 and 9, maybe even 10 would need a more Becher sky to work. (the clouds are too much for a boring picture).
4 would need to be at the end of the series.

I don't care about the composition or technical part, but it's nice to see some pictures that actually say something on here for once. Gute Arbeit, gute Nacht.
>>

Vielen Dank. Although >>2769964
>>2769965 probably has a point here when it comes to my shots in general.
>>
>>2770001

lmao @ you.

OP himself said he has been this bad from the start. Its not a style, or a deliberate "series", its in fact, all and the best he can do with a camera.
>>
>>2770024
I never said anything like that and sure they are a series. The were ment as a series from the beginning and as I wrote here >>2769991, they were all shot on Sundays and I did that by purpose.

I said that the other guy posting in here has a point on my framing and I asked what to improve.

You can argue the composition, the framing, the exposure or whatever, but let me tell you I shot all these with the intention of putting them together as a series.
>>
>>2770001
>These pictures don't need fancy light, high contrast and nice colors to work because they don't convey anything exciting, they just represent Sundays.
How does a line of yellow cars remind you of a Sunday?

Just because you are able to "art fag" some false meaning into a photo doesn't mean that it's there.

The photos do need processing, based on their intent. The OP image is repetition of color and form. This needs to be supported through processing, or it's sloppy and "look guys I saw a thing"

The value you see is baggage you carry with you. Not value in the photos themselves. Vosh is lucky you have that baggage, since he is incapable of providing it to his viewer (in the case of this lot of photos, at least)
>>
>>2770077
These are the official cars (all yellow) of the german postal service.. there's only a single day of the week you can see those lined up as in this shot.
In this particular case the thing you call "baggage" might actually be knowledge a native has. To be honest I have no idea what post cars in the US (white) or the UK or anywhere else look like. So, if I saw a shot like this with non native post cars, I would probably not get it.

For the other shots:
>>2769715
we're usually clean people here. You wouldn't see a mess like this next to a cleaning station during the week.

>>2769720
trucks are not allowed to drive on highways on a Sunday except for those with special permission (e.g. carrying perishable groceries). On a Sunday you see trucks standing around on quiet parking lots.

>>2769723
this is a gas station which is partly open on Sundays, but they already turned off the lights. Also, I find that building itself interesting.

>>2769724
obviously closed beverage market (lights off, empty parking lot) and closed car wash next to it.

>>2769727
closed industry building. The text says they manufacture some plastic parts, so you'd expect the garage to be open (fumes), or at least some light in the office.

>>2769730
not particular saying sunday, but as a kid those were more common and the road sign (actually the name of the street) says "playground". When I grew up I went outside on a Sunday.. always!
>>
>>2770103
cont.

>>2769732
closed car wash - usually those are frequented quite often and most times you have to wait until you can use one of these cabins.

>>2769734
while large gas stations are usually opened 24/7, this one (as most independent ones) closes.. but only on Sundays.

>>2769738
industry building.. some businesses don't close on Sundays, but this one does.. light off, no people anywhere to be seen.

In all these shots you'd expect people/light/action on a normal day of the week.

I never wrote I didn't process the shots.. I only said that no contrast or saturation was added in post. Actually, I stated that I changed the white balance in some shots, but sometimes I also pulled the highlights and pushed the shadows a little.
>>
>>2770103
>>2770104

you know you suck at photo when you go into these lenghts trying to explain the point of your photos.
>>
>>2770140
you know you suck at interpreting if you think I'm explaining the points of the shots. I'm giving you cultural background knowledge, that's all.
~3 lines per shots.. if you consider this long, you probably never read a book without pictures in it.
>>
>>2770165
>you probably never read a book without pictures in it.

ive read some. theyre called encyclopedias, and they never try to pass as photography. the text is much interesting than yours as well.

on the other hand, no respectable photobook tells you "see this, yeah, this is relevant because were clean people. and its dirty lol, what an irony!"
>>
>>2770174
what's your point here? You (or some other anon) asked why yellow cars standing in line would show a Sunday.. show that photo to the Germans you know and ask them what day of the week the shot was taken.
It's a little different here from the obvious 'I shot some nice bitch portrait' or 'look at that landscape' shots. Cultural knowledge plays a roll here... you're obviously missing that knowledge. No problem at all as I don't expect it to be universal, but why the bitching when I mention the background?
>>
>>2770077
>How does a line of yellow cars remind you of a Sunday?
A thing every German will understand, without the given explanation.

The whole discussion shows that most anons are lacking German background to understand the context without any explanation. But it is also some kind of feedback: How can this be understood as a series to a largely international audience? Unfortunately not at all.

I attribute a documentary value to your photos vosh, they show unchanged reality, a reflection of everyday life at the current time. You pick something that you want to express and go photographing on that subject, which is great!
You've given the title Sunday, for documentary your goal is to make the title clear from the photos without any text.

Do you direct your images according to aesthetic aspects? I believe even not at all.
If you do, then try to understand and read how people look at photos, make use of it. Viewers follow lines, it's possible to guide the sight with it, significantly if lines start from corners leading diagonally to the opposite corner. Set the interesting points on such lines and avoid other stoppers, and people will be guided to it.
>>2769715
Here we can talk about the principles, let's desist from the green box, which acts already as a blocker, it is too dominant in this reason
and would be better rather in the background.
The curb leads from the lower left corner past the messy vacuum cleaner pipe and to waste-bin and late to some waste on the ground, which are all messy things that you want to show the viewer.
>>
>>2770371
To learn aesthetic photography it helps to just concentrate on simple shapes that show obvious and sharp lines, don't focus on other targets simultaneously.
Here are steps to aim for successively:
-set-lines in corners, get a feeling for the effect
-recognize and shoot objects at the end of lines
-set your position and the perspective to combine objects with lines
>>
At least you've still got all your script based flickr followers to keep up your own illusion of these being any good.
