>mfw it took me literally 50-100 photos before I actually got a usable image of a cardinal
idk why but i took a shit ton of shots and they were all blurry. and not like the autofocus missed, there was nothing at all in focus in my images, and it was only with cardinals. other birds i nailed focus but i took shot after shot, on different days and every time they were blurry
finally got a usable shot last week

only reason I can think of is if you used too low of a shutter speed, but I trust that you already know about the 1/focal length for handheld shutter speed.
The Pentax K3 and its crop factor (which I assume is 1.5x) makes the 300mm lens a 532mm. You were pretty close with the 1/500, but this might have been the problem if you shot with lower speed. (and it says Exposure Mode: Auto, so it might have wildly been varying the shutter speeds during your 100 photos).

idk how I got 532, but the actual conversion is 450, and its actually specified in your .exif.
It's 3am, time for bed.

i shoot in pentax's TAv mode, which is basically manual with auto ISO, that's why it says auto exposure. i always shoot above 1/500 sec and will shoot faster if more light is available. and pentax has in body image stabilization so that's not a big problem typically, and all my other bird shots i got sharp with one take. idk it was just weird that it only happened with cardinals

Could be a huge coincidence.
It shouldn't be an issue with modern cameras..... but having lens IS (dunno about in-body IS) on, and attached to a tripod, can actually add more blur.
>>2766596
I wasnt using a tripod, and im assuming its just a coincidence, its just really weird that it was only one species of bird, on separate ocassions

This photo gives me such a boner
