Fear not the location and subjects may have changed but the VSCO usage and white borders haven't, if anything VSCO usage is at an all time high.

that i can do.
for the purpose of this tutorial ill have to assume you own the VSCO presets for LR.
its actually pretty simple since I'm pleb as fuck.
first
>in library go to auto tone which nearly always makes it lighter.
>go into develop pick a preset you like or suits the scene since I'm in a desert area I'm picking a lot of bright washed out presets.

>DR: highlight save ++
>DR:shadow save ++
and thats pretty much gets me to what you see here. Like i said its full automated the only thing i do is decide what preset looks the prettiest. Hop this helped I'm sure someone somewhere will have something to say about my process but in the end I'm just making pictures that i think look pretty without much thought put into them, I'm not trying to make high art here just something pleasing to look at for a few seconds.

I don't want to sound like a dick but if you like my pictures this trip was basically influenced by the works of Stephen Shore mostly his "American surfaces" and "Uncommon places" period of work. I want to stress i am not comparing my work to his or am saying my pictures are comparable but i really enjoy his work and wanted to created something similar in feeling so please check out his stuff if you haven't already. A preset used on one of the photos was a Potra160C if thats help to anyone. I also think there were some slight manual exposure and contrast alterations

Explain this to me. What's the context? Was there another structure nearby or is this some weird Aussie thing where you just put gas pumps out in the middle of nowhere? Why is it only one pump and not a bank of them? Why is it so far away from everything? Why is there no canopy?

my guess would be it would be easier for the road trains to access if it was seperate from the rest of the fuel pumps that the smaller cars use, also diesel is normally stored in a seperate tank underground. The road trains are normally higher then the standard clearance size for the canopy.

Can someone help me understand why people like this kind of photography? Genuine question. I've seen previous threads and lots of people seem to love these pictures, but I don't get it.
I guess the colors are pretty nice (helped by VSCO filters) but the composition is often kinda sloppy and all these pictures look so incredibly dull and generic to me.
Just loosely framed pictures of things, not even interesting things.
It could very well be that my photographic eye just hasn't learned to appreciate the particular skills shown here yet, so please explain. What's the thought process?

This is the only pic in the thread I like. The colors, values and shapes immediately lead the eye to the subject. The blocking is clever (the different rectangles and the gap in the center of the frame) and there's a kind of strange atmosphere because you can't immediately tell what the white pillar shapes are.

I don't think the framing is sloppy.
As for what I enjoy about them, they take things we would normally pass by without reconsidering (mostly buildings) and reduce them to geometric shapes. When you get that close to a building that you cut off being able to view the whole thing you're left with mostly straight lines and squares.

Stuff is only interesting when it's new to you. This anon's work has always been dull to me and it's not likely to improve anytime soon. Sadly he doesn't have a trip yet so I can't filter his threads.
