I see no reason to stockpile film. I move around too often to store it properly, anyway. I just maintain 20 rolls Portra 400. As soon as I get down to 15 rolls I buy another box.
Maybe you should go shoot it instead of bragging on a Vietnamese video forum?
>>2733247
Not OP but stockpiling has it's place when an emulsion you love becomes discontinued.
I bought 250 rolls of Agfa APX 100 and 50 rolls of RSX 50 when Agfa went belly up, Scalla was already gone. I shot the APX but the RSX still sits in my fridge because no one wants to run it through their C41 chemistry anymore.
I would kill for the rolls OP has of 160VC
>>2733530
I don't know much about MF film photography.
Do emulsions change that much?
Why would you only get 50 rolls of RSX 50?
Why don't people want to process the RSX 50?
I also don't understand the film market.
Are all of you still using old stocks of discontinued film floating around on the market? Isn't there a current manufacturer of 120 film or is it too expensive?
>>2733247
>I see no reason to stockpile film.
plep.
>>2734024
>Do emulsions change that much?
sure they do.
>Isn't there a current manufacturer of 120 film
yes. its bloody expensive and very narrowed down, much more if you arent in the US or japan. there are like 2 slide types right now being made, provia and velvia. whereas in the past there were fucking lots of them, with varying qualities, and even tungsten ones. and there is c41 too, lots of variety. or some of the sweet iso 25 b&w emulsions.
I only do 35mm these days, I have like 10 rolls of Acros 100 and 5 rolls of Tri-X. I don't really like stockpiling a whole bunch but maybe I should start doing it considering how Fuji keeps killing off film stocks and jacking up prices on the ones they haven't discontinued yet.
What's really scaring me is HC-110 developer, now I think freestylephoto is the only site that still ships it and I'm worried it'll disappear one day. I guess I could buy a couple of extra bottles and store them unopened somewhere dark since it seems like that stuff never really goes bad anyway. I've also thought about switching to Rodinal since it's similar and seems more popular but that's apparently getting harder to find too.
>>2734074
You can make your own rodinal at home in the future. You can also make other homebrew developers and fixers. So until black and white film is no longer manufactured, I'm still gonna shoot with it :)
>>2733236
>based 220 reala propacks
I am envious.
>>2734128
Around 1998-2003 vinyl was dead. Film seems to be going through a similar dark period.
>>2734271
>>based 220 reala propacks
this guy gets it.
>>2734275
Vinyl is coming back because of its analogue properties, I can see film doing the same.
>>2734641
You don't have to pay $10 every time you want to listen to vinyl. Also, it's not really making a comeback.
>>2734275
As someone who actually had a record pressed in the time period that you mentioned, I can tell you vinyl was (and is) very much still alive.
Although sales have picked up for records quite a bit recently, at one point every major label had its own entire plant. I don't think this will ever be the case again.
>>2734646
hot opinions, etc.
>>2734660
Opinion? What about that post is an opinion?
It's worth noting that's it's vastly more difficult to produce quality color film than vinyl records. You can mass-produce records with basic molding equipment that's used for countless other products.
Film production is incredibly specialized and complex, and a lot of the specifics are proprietary/locked up in the heads of old guys. If/when a film production line dies out, it probably can't ever be recreated the way it was.
>>2734703
Also existing factories were made with enormous production capacity in mind and it's not possible to scale them down to meet the current vastly reduced demand while still being profitable. All of the equipment is huge and a single batch of film is an enormous amount.
where do you guys find all this expired film? All the stuff I find on ebay either costs way too much or ends up costing $70 to ship to Canada.
>>2735152
ebay.
>canada
i think you goof'd there.
>>2733247
Meanwhile I just received babby's first roll of Portra.
>>2735451
haha, prepare to not see what all the fuss was about.

I enjoy it quite a bit. It won't take a bad photo and make it good (like any film, sensor, or lens) but it's pretty nice to work with.

Films never gonna be super mainstream because neither is quality photography but I was under the assumption that film is fairly popular for what it is right? He'll even instax cameras are everywhere
