Someone called the police because they thought a photographer with a tripod was carrying a gun:

How many more innocent people need to be shot before we ban assault tripods?

Yeah it happens. Telephoto lenses get attention too. People think you're carrying a grenade launcher.

I got 3 cops called on me last night for taking photos about 10 minutes away from my house on a main road yesterday. Said they got a call about someone acting "suspicious" AKA me walking around, taking photos at a few different spots. They searched me and ran my name for warrants.I had the Canon nifty 50 on my camera too. I don't even know what would've happened if it was a telephoto.

I was taking some long exposure photos on a bridge over the highway once. I'm honestly surprised nobody called the cops because I was standing with my camera right on the ledge at night, wearing a heavy, kinda rape-y looking coat because it was cold as fuck. It had to look really shady to anyone passing by.
Now I know the average age of a 4chan user has not slid under being able to remember that television crew that got mistaken for an RPG team in the middle east right?

On phone but Google 2007 Baghdad Airstrike or something like that
>>2707046
The fuck is a rapey coat?
God you kids suck at adjectives.
>>2707058
I call it a rapey coat because I always feel like a sex offender when i wear it. It's huge and looks like it should be worn by a hobo ready to flash his dick at you.
The only reason why i keep it is because it's warm.
>>2707067
Flashing and rape are very, very different things.

>Being this bad at punctuation.

are you a coat expert or a rape expert?
I've had that problem twice. Once while trespassing in Colorado (I think rubber might have been along that time or it was a separate run, they kind of blur together) some guy thought I was a deer poacher. Chatted him up, he was a chill guy from up in Minnesota. Another time hiking to Bumpass Hell in Lassen NP I see a quarter mile up the trail a mom tuck her twelve year old behind her and stand stock still. When I get up to she stares at me ghost white and then starts saying "oh it's a tripod". I be all like "lolwat lady" and be like "I thought it was rifle. I must have laughed at her for half a mile.
Friend and I were out one night getting random b-roll, on a pedestrian bridge catching the cars passing under.
Apparently someone saw something like pic and called the police reporting a guy was shooting paintballs at cars.
The responding officer quickly figured out what happened, I don't remember what exactly he said, but it was probably just some procedural comment while thinking "stupid lady" in the back of his head.

I was taking IR photos on a highway overpass last summer. Some woman drove past, then turned around at the other side of the overpass, parked at a bus stop and sat there. After I was about done she drove past behind my back very slowly. Probably tried to call the cops and got told to not waste their time on bullshit. Pic related, it was my setup.

>The apparently one-off device and its accessories are said to still be in excellent condition and working perfectly, both of which attributes may have helped the camera gun to receive an estimate of at least $335,435 before it was auctioned in 2015.
>Made in a Russian factory from the 1950s, Zenit-brand cameras were subsequently shipped to 74 countries around the globe. Unusually, however, the Zenit range included an observation camera known as the Photosniper, which mimicked the characteristics of a rifle and was produced during the Cold War period.
>The camera’s design furthermore made it an ideal surveillance tool, enabling its operator to capture crisp images of moving objects with a steady hand. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Zenit Photosniper was utilized by the KGB in addition to other intelligence agencies across communist Europe.
>The impressive, heavy-duty Paillard Bolex H9 Mi Gun camera managed to survive in a warzone, and it did so just by shooting 8 mm film rather than 9 mm rounds. The bespoke item was apparently created for a correspondent covering the Vietnam War; and in terms of makeup, it melds a standard H9 movie camera from Swiss firm Paillard Bolex with a robust gun stock and trigger housing.

>Japanese Type 89 Machine Gun Camera
>During the early 20th century, various gun cameras were developed to help train military aerial gunnery students. Replicating the real thing in practically everything other than bullets, the devices’ photographs were used to assess trainees’ trigger skills.
>One such “weapon” was the Japanese Type 89 Machine Gun Camera, known as the Rokuoh-Sha. Introduced in 1936 by the company that later became Konica, the Type 89 used 35 mm cine film and was powered by a hand-turned spring motor capable of up to ten frames a second.
>Image Fulgurator
>Here’s a gun camera with a difference, although perhaps the Image Fulgurator nods to its Cold War-era counterparts thanks to its sneaky purpose. Created by Berlin-based artist Julius von Bismarck, the unusual optical mod was designed to project an image – invisible to the naked eye – onto any object being photographed by someone else.

>Doryu 2-16
>Another retro Japanese design, this next device could be a convincing 9 mm automatic pistol if it weren’t for its barrel, which somewhat gives the game away. Manufactured by the Doryu Camera Company between 1954 and 1956, the 16 mm still-image camera element accounts for almost half of the contraption’s overall weight, and unlike the real thing it of course only shoots film.
>The device is understood to have been renamed the Nihon 16-miri Shashin Kōgyō at some point during its history, and like other vintage camera guns featured here, it has become rather valuable in recent times. For example, one model fetched nearly $25,000 in 2001 in spite of its outdated technology.

this reminds me of this one German artist who made a device that detected camera flashes and projected images onto a target. The guy would stand in some photographer crowd with the device and the other photographers would later find e.g. Crusader crosses on the shields policemen arresting some Arabian guy.
