I just got back from Japan about 2.5 weeks ago, and I recommend taking a few weeks out of your busy lives to visit this pristine place with an amazing culture. Anyways, I shot and edited a music video through my "lens" and experiences of Japan. Feedback and views are appreciated!

I would have considered that second pic a throw away, but I sort of like how stuff is scattered around the edges of the frame. I was hoping for a shot with that girl and the guy behind the foreground figure, but they waked away. I snaped this impulsively when the guy walked in front, and thought it looked a bit like a collage.
Fuji pic is a vacation souvenir. It is not exciting, no, but it was cloudy all fucking day...

Well, it takes decent pictures for a phone, but the hardware is not really capable of running the OS. It lags a lot, and is fairly useless. I also had to upgrade it with a huge and bulky battery to be able to use it for more than 10 hours without recharging.

I just got back from Japan about 3.5 weeks ago, and let me just say that this place has the most amazing culture/people and food I've ever experienced. I travelled everywhere from Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Okinawa, Nakatsugawa, and more, and every time I was treated with the upmost respect and hospitality. I'm a low key nerd so I enjoyed the 6 story arcades, Pokemon center, owl & cat cafes, and all the over the top fashion. Nope, as long as you speak English, aren't a total weeb, can work competently, can pass an interview, and have a 4 year degree from a *credible* university, you're in.
Be warned though, the pay is shit, you'll be used as a human tape recorder (this varies A TON by school..) and for the most part it's somewhat weird work. You'll be shoved into a school either in a suburban area or a rural area. Any major cities can be done in a 1-2 day trip.
The thing is, you really have to be careful how long you do it, because if you sit in Japan for 5 years and return to the states you'll be fucked in terms of job experience. If you have a tech degree and you taught english in Japan, nobody will hire you.
A lot of guys learn Japanese while in the JET program, pass an JPLT, and get a job in their field somewhere in Japan because they're already in country.

I've heard rough percentage of 20-30% acceptance out of all the applicants. They don't care about degrees (mine has absolutely nothing to do with English or language). It's a long process as you apply in November, find out if you made it through the first round in January, interview in February, and find out if you got in in May. Then you don't find out where you're going in Japan until June or later.
The actual experience varies greatly from person to person. I completely lucked out with my schools (work at 2 high schools), coworkers, and location. My schools and coworkers are fantastic and the students are generally pretty great. I haven't had one instance of being a human tape record as the other anon talked about and have pretty much 100% freedom to make my own lessons (but I think I'm in the minority of JETs who experience this). One of my latest lessons at the tech-focused (kids who want to become mechanics, engineers, etc) high school I teach at was all about cars. Made a powerpoint with 60+ photos of cars from different countries and talked about car types, car parts, and adjectives. The kids loved it.
Pay isn't great, my monthly salary after tax is 2,796,000yen ($23k USD). I plan on staying for a second year and my salary is automatically bumped to ~$25k after tax then. Living expenses are much less than what I'm used to here though and I don't think I'll have a problem putting away $10k a year. I pay more for rent than most people too (about $400/mo). If you live in a rural area rent can be as little as $80/mo.
I came mainly to learn Japanese as I don't really have an interest in teaching. My second goal is saving up for grad school. Overall I'm enjoying it, lots of free time to explore Japan (you get 21 paid vacation days + holidays and work hours or pretty strictly enforced to only be ~830-415 M-F).

looks like a solid plan for two weeks. I'd do 1 week of Tokyo, 2 days in Osaka and 2-3 days in Kyoto. With the remaining 2-3 days you can take side trips from Tokyo to Nikko and/or Kamakura (or maybe Yokohama) and while you're at it also Nara (near Osaka or Kyoto) to see the huge Buddha and the dear park. Hakone is also pretty nice and a nice stop for a day or two on your way from Tokyo to Osaka/Kyoto.
Also if you do decide to stay a week in Tokyo (which I would reeeally recommend), don't get the two weeks rail pass and get the one week one since it won't pay off during your time in Tokyo at all

i used to have the same problem anon (taking too many photos + not enough good ones) and i found that getting a film camera really helps because you're limited to the a certain number of shots per roll and the number of rolls you take with, so it makes you put more thought into each photo.

It's 226 meters tall, being the tallest pylon in Japan. It's part of the Chushi powerline crossing, the pylon stands on top of the Okunoshima island (mostly know to tourists as the Rabbit Island). I don't know how it compares internationally, but it is pretty huge even from a distance. Here's the pylon seen from the shore of the island.

Last one, stupid flare though. The biggest issue at the festival was that at least half of the crowd was just photographers, many of whom were pushy Chinese who formed phalanxes around every potential subject and spent ten+ minutes there shooting through every possible combination of camera settings. Typical tourist trap stuff I guess, but I didn't really expect it of a small town festival.

Back in Kyoto up on the road to Kiyomizu-dera I met a couple real geishas.
No shit my wife and I ended up drinking with them, and they proposed a foursome but my wife got offended.
I almost stayed in Kyoto forever that night boys.
TRUE STORY.
Oh BTW my geisha photo was taken with a real geisha of a lens, the Voigtlander Ultra Wide Heliar. Widest lens is best lens.
Later she forgave me and we've been together for 17 years total now. Both photos with the R-D1 and CV 12mm f/5.6.
For some reason the reds pop in Japan.
This one's also with the R-D1 but wielding the Canon 50mm f/1.2 in LSM. It's not wide open or anything, but I really like this lens.
