Wayne national forest has several backpacking trails that can be decent.

Other than that, it's state parks and forests, both of which prohibit open fires and harvesting fire wood.

Heading out to vesuvius lake myself on the weekend of the 29th...hopefully its not shit.

If you're willing to drive to KY, Red River Gorge is beautiful.

That sucks.

Bad thing is, I live in Central Ohio, Columbus to be exact. Guess I'll try Alum Creek.

And I live in East Central Indiana; it's worth the trip!

head out to Hocking Hills or Old Man's Cave.

Old Man's Cave is packed on weekends, but is nice during the week.

Depends on what you are looking for. No real wilderness camping available. A lot of Ohioans spend their weekends at campgrounds all summer. Seems like most of them try to include as many comforts of home as possible. Air conditioning, golf carts, lots of beer drinking. Not my idea of getting away from it all but to each his own.

Leave the state. West Virginia and Kentucky have some excellent camping, as does Michigan if you're willing to haul ass up to the northern part of the mitten or all the way to the UP.

The Gorge is a 4 hour drive, and the Dolly Sods in WV is 5. If you're going for a full weekend, both are well worth it.

Ohio has pretty much everything you would want geologically wise, just broaden your scope of how you view nature.
Shit has caves and sinkholes and shit.
Personally I don't frequent the parks or camps, I just camp innawoods.

It's decent.

>>812524
It's great, make sure to check out all the bridges and shit.

Michigan guy here. I'd try out a few areas in Ohio first. Look for BLM land or National Parks. If you can't find anything and you've got a car, see what's closest in Kentucky. For Michigan you'll have to drive through Detroit or Ann Arbor, which isn't exactly close. Check out Thunder Bay if you come up here though.
