Our friend in the south is having snowtime.
I for one am planning for an NZ snowboard trip this Sept, but am still searching places that are easily accessible via public transport.
Im still a beginner, so a simple slope is ok for me. Looking fwd for recommendations.
Also, where are you guys /out/ for some snow?

Moved to Salt Lake City from the East Coast since we had a piss poor winter last season
I'll probably be at park city or solitude this winter - very excited for big mountain powder and proper parks!
People are still hiking up into the mountains to scrounge some runs out of what snow is left, the absolute madmen
got a ride crook with ride rodeo bindings. I'm 5'6" and went down from a 155 to a 149 with no regrets. I'm not going to win any boarderX competitions anytime soon but holy shit does that baby spin

Summer sucks.
81°F in my house right now... can't wait for summer to be over with.
Sled's gonna get some $$ in parts this fall though... narrow front-end kit and shocks, replace a few parts I smashed last year.

Your three basic choices are to:
1. fly to auckland/wellington then drive/bus? (~5 hours by car) to ohakune in order to ski mt. ruapehu. there are two skifields there, whakapapa and turoa (550 and 500 ha respectively. (turoa is better sheltered from the prevailing wind and sun so the snow doesn't melt/freeze/melt/freeze as much)
2. fly to christchurch to ski mt. hutt, porters, craigieburn/broken river. (craigieburn backcountry is off the chart, but really not suitable for a beginner) (between 1 and 4 hours drive for these skifields)
3. fly to queenstown to ski cardrona, treble cone, the remarkables, or coronet peak. (treble cone is the best, although not really a beginner resort) (up to an hour's drive/bus)
my recommendation is queenstown, specifically cardrona or the remarkables. (345ha and 220ha respectively.) they are both quite gentle, beginner firendly skifields, and reasonably well appointed, unlike the clubfields. if you are felling a bit braver, try coronet peak, also in the area. (280ha, more advanced terrain)
hope you have fun, the season is off to a pretty shitty start (aucklander here, hoping to get down to ruapehu in a couple of weeks once the upper mountain gets more snow)

plan for a 9 day trip, maybe 3days on the slopes and the rest sightseeing NZ.
Alternatively im also checking AUS.
