Commuting cyclist here, are solar backpacks just a gimmick or are there good ones?

Pic from Web search.

solar panels kill wildlife by igniting them with thier focused solar death rays.

I haven't seen any good ones yet. Maybe they will develop cooler ones in the near future.

if you're a cyclist just put a generator on your bike

Gimmick for the most part. They only charge if they are facing the sun (duh) and it takes hours to charge a phone. Solar packs are only good if you are hiking or camping. A 5w panel will take like 4+ hours to charge a phone.

And if you are a commuting cyclist just charge it at your destination / home.

you people use the roads and sidwalks without paying for it like the rest of us do, you take up space with your FREE bike racks while the rest of us have to pay for parking, you don't have to have any insurance coverage when we are required by law to have insurance, and now you want to suck-up our sunlight for free too?

Stop whining, you fat slob. You have the same legal right to save money by riding a bike as anyone else. Driving is subsidized out of general revenue by non-drivers (fees and gas tax don't cover full costs, especially if you factor in the Oil Wars). Dependency on fossil fuel supports Islamic terrorism and Russia. Most of us drive as well.

No point if you just commute on a bike. The only time you'd be outdoors long enough to need this is camping.

Why don't you do it if it's so great, easy, and free?

Look at these two faggots.
How low in social intelligence can you get?

Just buy a solar panel and backpack separately. I got the 8 watt anker one for $30 and I can charge a 4 amp battery 1% every three minutes.

Anker is a good brand. Their battery packs are really good quality for what you pay, although I still prefer to buy the DIY ones that let me put my own cells in.
