Also the young ones have a blue tail and black and yellow stripes that they lose as they age

Broadheaded skinks are usually much bigger than that and have a larger head relative to their body. This is more likely an adult male Five-lined skink (Plestiodon fasciatus). As juveniles they have blue tails and the stripes are more defined, but both fade with maturity. You can see a little bit of red-orange on the chin of the lizard in this pic, which is why I think it is a male. The male broadheaded skinks have much more orange than the five-lined skinks.
