generally shaving down tinder, maybe gutting small fish (yes, I'm aware it's not "the right kind" of knife) and just having a sturdy fixed blade that's easily accessible when hiking/camping. I'm more just wondering if anyone knows about the durability of it.

Agreed, the knurled metal handle is going to hold secure and not shred your hand with extended use.
The tanto style blade is great for stabbing. I don't know about you but when I'm out I stab everything.

Metal handles suck for extended use in cold climates, in fact they will suck all the heat out of your hands the first time you have to remove your gloves in winter to cut something, I'd say use a thin cord wrap on the handle if you live in one of the colder states anon
