I legitimately have no clue what this plant is. I have no intent to do anything with it, I'm just curious. I saw it today while going on a nice long walk through a forested trail. There was only one of them, and I've never seen it before. Needless to say, I think it's gorgeous, I'm just pretty clueless about plant identification

It's the most common invasive/pest species on earth. How sheltered are you OP? Btw, depending on which on it is, the flowers can be bretty nice.

Yeah, like others have said - Thistle. Specifically, it looks like Bull Thistle right before the pretty purple flower buds out. You can eat the stalk (peel it).
Get /out/ more. A lot more.
That's a thistle.
My horse loved eating the blooms... plucked the flowers right off the stem. Also liked beer. I miss that guy.

Super chill pony everyone loved. Great personality, great with kids and new riders... okay around firearms... wasn't a fan of plastic bags or tarps, but didn't get retarded and jumpy around them either. He even did westernaires for a few years.
>be me, onnahorse
>windy
>riding down into a gulley, diagonal trail narrows at a corner of a chain-link fence and steep-ish dropoff into the gulley
>gust of wind as I get to the corner
>kicks up a sheet of plywood from the other side and slams it against the fence
>woodman jumps straight up about 4 feet, lands and backs up a few steps
>Easy bud... you're okay... lets go
>a little hesitant but with a little convincing he went on
>could have freaked the fuck out and sent me into the gulley
>could have jumped sideways, lost footing, and sent us both down the gulley
>but he didn't
