Okay so lets admit it we're all fucking gear whores here. Share what you've bought, why, and try and keep it civil guys.
I bought pic related because I 'needed' a new EDC torch. I already own a ZL 18650 light but it's too heavy and bulky for EDC, also doesn't have a clip. SC5 on the other hand is an AA light, and pushes almost 500 lumens from a neutral emitter which is suhweet.

I bought that Fiskars meme hatchet
Needed quite a bit of sharpening when i received it, and the grip feels a bit odd in my hand, but it's still worth it for around $20.
i bought a map
Milfag here. Bought these cuz sitting in a foxhole for 3 days with wet feet sucks ass.
Never enough lures...
Are those fancy flashlights really worth the money and trouble of getting those batteries? I use my headlamp most of the time but keep a small LED maglite with me and it is pretty bright.
Arcteryx alpha LT top and bottom
$800 all together

18650 is a great battery format but as it warrants its own LiIon charger I'd say don't get a 18650 light unless you're an enthusiast.
The SC5 and other fancy AA lights (I used to have an H502, too) are worth it IMO for the following reasons:
>good UI - every mode is accessable from off
>AA format so compatible with alkaline (available everywhere) and NiMH rechargeable batteries (eneloop for the win)
>ability to check remaining battery life
>choice of emitters (CW,NW,highCRI,etc)
>sub lumen 'low' setting is based
>current controlled so no PWM flickering on low settings (gives me a headache)
>500 lumens! (around) for the SC5 depending on emitter, that's CRAZY for an AA torch
Folk spend crazy money on knives but then neglect a decent torch. It's dark half the time dude might as well invest in something decent.

true, but a headlamp is worth more than a torch for the usual out chores, and a petzl doesn't cost an arm and a leg and still does a decent job.

The 'H' series ZLs, whether AA, CR123 or 18650, can all be used either as torches or head torches (they come with a head strap that you fit the torch into).
I used to use a Petzl and trust me the difference is light and day. 3xAAA is a shitty configuration, PWM for brightness regulation is shitty, the tints are shitty, they're not waterproof, no way to tell remaining battery life, etc etc.
60$ is not particularly expensive, either for you Amerifats - I paid 60£ - most people won't even blink at a 100$ knife.

Sorry, but the Petzl always was enough for me (besides, it has a low bat indicator). But then, I also manage to go out with a SAK and do not need more.
Interesting enough, I have never seen anyone doing mountaineering with anything else than either a Petzel or a Black Diamond, so I guess I keep it that way.
Last 2 purchases were:
Arcteryx Hyllus Hoody - $65
2x MEC old style sling bags(like pic related. Not the new ones that are really feminine and impractical) - $20(10 ea.)
I then ordered the parts needed to add a 3rd strap to the sling bags(to secure it. Otherwise it wags around if youre doing more than a walking) which was about $5 on ebay.

can anyone have to much fishing gear? I can I can...
>>781176
I just bought a couple of Nite Ize camjams, and some new polarized sunglasses because I lost the old ones my last time out skiing.

I need lika a boat bag that I can leave in my car. But I'm not a huge fan of leaving thousands of dollars worth of tackle in the car while I walk around a lake. My normal bag is just so damn heavy.
>Needing flashlights
>Not owning the night
>>781530
How are they? Worth it? Or overrated?
>>781681
How are what? I haven't used the camjams yet except to play around, but they seem to work pretty well, and they're only $3. Got them to tie down gear on my kayak. Polarized sunglasses are pretty good especially for cutting glare on the water.
Just bought some rebuildable Nicks Firetroopers for the upcoming fire season, and some Darn Tough wool socks. Breaking them in now, gonna get some hiking done before work starts

wish I could get darn tough socks over here in britbongdium
>>781702
Thanks, I was thinking so much about the camjams that i forgot about the sunglasses...
