2002 subaru impreza ts. It's comfortable enough for city living and it's got enough room to sleep in the back and haul around my gear. My only complaints is that it's an auto, not turbo'd, fucking head gaskets, not enough clearance for rougher roads(working on getting it lifted an inch), and the exhaust rattles. It has taken me on several adventures and it will hopefully take me on several more.

My baby. '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the Hemi V8, 345 hp. Just took me over 50,000 miles in the past year all over the USA. 8,000 or so probably were off paved roads and in some really rough spots in certain parks/forests. Fast and while it's had a few issues, it's gotten me everywhere alive so I love it.

This was in Antelope Island State Park outside of Salt Lake City. A bit oversaturated but I like the backdrop.

Thoughts on the Jeep Cherokee?
>>
>>780213
Old one or new one?

I know all about Grand Cherokees. And older regular Cherokees a bit. 4.0L I6 is bulletproof in the old ones. Just make sure the 4WD works in them because sometimes it will shit itself and the owner will never know if they don't use it much. And those end up being expensive fixes.

I went with a 4x4 ranger for outing, though I used a zx3 focus for several years before it. I've since put a toolbox with ready to go camping/rising stuff that is locked up.

>>780213
Two door Cherokees are badass, though a hell of a lot harder to find too.
>>
>>780244
Camping / fishing is what that should say
>>
>>780213

Get a wrangler, cherokees are unibody which is a pain to fix when you squeeze it between trees. As others have said check the 4wd. Dana 30s are piss poor and easy to blow so check the front diff too.

2005 Outback

I'd like to make it alittle more off-road worthy. I will eventually pick up some of the primitive skid plates. I'd also like to upgrade the wheels, but I don't really know anything about that. It currently has 16" wheels on it:

> Are certain wheels stronger/better for off roading or would I be fine with the oem?

> What wheel size/ tire size is best?

> How do I find out what wheel and tire size will fit?

Other than that I'm in the process of building a roof rack. Are there any other essential upgrades to make this a good offroading car?

Surprisingly good little 4x4s. They are cheap, no frills, tough, and just work. Good choice.
>>
>>780899
They're aren't that great, but are probably the cheapest 4x4 you can find. They're reliable, terrible interiors, and pretty cheaply made. The higher trim models that are "trail rated" are better than your typical CUV, but not as good as a dedicated offroad vehicle.

Another good choice is a forester, or outback. Get some decent tires and they'll serve you well.

Not him, but before I got my old XJ I used to drive around innawoods with my dad's '97 1500 SLT and that thing was just too big for a lot of the trails I drive around on now. Talk to Paul at Primitive and let him know what you want to do with the car. Primitive makes lift kits for most Subaru. You can even pick up wheels from them and they can probably recommend tires that will fit well with your lift.

If you go down a size in rims (15") you will have more tire options. Your stock 16" rims are fine for light offroading and even some rallycross.

Yup, 4.6 stroker actually. 8.8 rear end, 4:10 gears, spring over conversion, grand cherokee front knuckles. Pretty much done besides cosmetic and comfort until I blow the tranny or dana 30 in the front. Once the front end goes I'll throw in arb air lockers and a dana 44 front. I'm also thinking about putting in an NV4500, but they're meme priced now so more likely that I'll stick with the ax15 and twin stick it if I ever decide I need the lower gearing.
