Where do you buy your gear?

MEC, it's the sister company of REI in the states.

Amazon, Walmart, Dick's, Home Depot, Tractor Supply. I generally avoid the REIs and EMS's and I don't have a Cabella's or Bass Pro near me
>>
Been looking for a decent budget tent as I almost froze to death last time. Have no idea what I'm doing tbqh, and I'd appreciate some advice.

the tent itself isn't gonna solve the problem of cold and freezery. you should probably invest in a good sleebin pad and sleebin bag honestly

Flea markets, thrift stores, amazon, walmart, hardware stores, and very specific items like ice helmet, climbing rope, harness, etc. at "proper" stores like rei etc.

Even so I'd like to know just what I should get.
Recommend any sleeping bags etc?

I've bought my northface 55pack from Dicks (for the same price as at REI), my socks are Darn tough wool hikers which are goddamn sex on feet, got a 2L camelback from dicks, an Esee6 from Esee's site, hiking boots from REI, some paracord from Lowes, some bankline from selfrelianceoutfitters, and a tent given to me by a friend. My shit comes from all over, generally whoever is holding a sale.

Online. Sometimes brand name stores or off brand stores.

It all depends on if they have what I want and if it's the cheapest price.

Just bought a set of black diamond wired stoppers for 25% off at REI. Might not be the cheapest by a couple of percentage but REI always has fast shipping and their return policy is top notch so I can deal with not saving the absolute most if it warrants me the aforementioned

UK fag?

British Army 90 pattern Arctic sleeping bag. £30-40 online, rated to about -15C tho I haven't tested mine that low. Weighs a pig (2.7kg for mine) but comfy as f and good balance between function and price IMO.

Couple of cheap £10 close cell foam (CCF) pads for ground insulation.

Basically any tent will do if you're happy to carry the weight and are not going to be doing any alpine camping (tents designs prioritizing wind resistance, snow shedding etc)

Good online shops for UK fags:

goarmy
ddhammocks
cotswoldoutdoors
tamaracksoutdoors
heinnie haynes
