I use a small gauge tube with a slingshot rubber to shoot home made arrows at them. Frog legs are great and they make ok bait.
How does that gig work out for you?
I've seen then at stores but I'm skeptical unless I also buy a broom handle, just seems cumbersome.

I personally use a 13 ft telescoping pole with a 5 prong gig head on it. Pretty much as long as I'm within range I can gig as many as I can spot.
>>
>>763213
Frenchfag here, I love eating frogs, I like catching them and stuff but hell, what do you you need the pitchfork for? I have never ever met a frog hunter here unable to catch plenty of them without hurting it.
>>
>>763539
Well if you're going to eat them they have to get hurt eventually. What do you do, catch them and keep them in captivity where they live a long a fullfilling life until they die of old age peacefully in their sleep and then you eat them?

If you dont kill an animal immediately before it is having a panic attack the meat will be shit tier.
>>
>>763540
Not personally a fatass, it's just quicker and more efficient to gig. However the further South you go, the more frog catchers you will find. Observe.

Alright, I guess it makes sense somehow, maybe I should be happy none of them suggested an assault rifle for better results.

About the frogs I catch, I kill them the most painless and quick way, and eat them all.

>>763544
It doesnt mean I have to waste the meat with holes.
It doesnt mean they should spend a few hours agonizing beore I finally kill them.
It doesnt meant their shredded innards should spoil the meat.

What do you catch yours with? Nets? What species of frogs do y'all hunt?

>>763549

>waste the meat

We only eat the legs so stabbing them in the head ain't no thing. After we get a hold of them we whack em against something hard to finish them off.
>>
>>763723

I've never had frog before. Why do you only eat the legs?
>>
>>763726

It's the only part with a decent amount of muscle tissue. The rest of the critter is pretty much just a thin sack full of organs and poop.
>>
I went gigging for the first time a couple of weeks ago, we used a bright led flashlight and a spring loaded gig with like a 10ft pole. We only managed to catch 2 that were "eating size" so we let them go. There are a lot of bullfrogs in that pond but most of them are too far out to gig from the shore, I'm gonna fix up an old aluminum jon boat that I've got laying around and try using that next time.
>>
>>763213
I love frog's legs. I love even more getting drunk as all fuck and making frog's legs and then making them dance before I eat them.
>>
I would if I knew where to find them. I've only seen wild frogs on two occasions here. Grabted, I've never really looked, but still.

I didn't know there was a specific term for this.

I didn't know people specifically hunted frogs for food either.

Huh.

I used to go frog gigging during the Spring/Summer when I was a teenager. Good times. We would fish and drink a few beers as the sun set, and after dark, when the frogs started really talking to one another, we would set out with our gigs and a bucket and flashlight, and gig em.
then we would head back to the house and my girlfriend at the time fried them up while we fished some more.
that was good times.
>>
>>764587
I had pretty much the same experience, only no gf so we had to clean and cook them. Frog gigging really is a fun time, especially when you and your buddies are about half lit and keep missing all frogs you're trying to gig.
>>
>>764269
Thanks bro

>>763723
The idea is quite simple, get a fishing pole, whatever size fits you (or a long stick), get fishing thread (other strings can work fine too) , hang something red, a bit flashy to the pole, giggle it in front of frogs during day time.
They will jump on it and catch it like cameleons do.
Profit.

Sometimes the frogs would let go the bait, it happens, just be quick, having a net pole can nullify this possibility.

Otherwise doing this with a fishing hook will get very messy I guess. I would not recommand this.

Frog legs are just okay. It's a lot of work for a little bit of meat that tastes interior to fish.

I'd rather go fishing every time.
>>
>>763213
frog legs are alright.. but man, bullfrog skin, the bigger the frog the better. makes some really cool fucking leather.
>>
>>764792

Huh, I actually did that as a kid at boy scout camp while fishing in a small lake for bluegill. I just dangled the lure near some lillies and caught a few. They were all too small to eat so I let them go, and when I threw one of them back a gar jumped out of the water and ate it which was pretty neato.

Oh, indeed, only the strongest and bravest of men can hunt the elusive frog.

Unfortunately people do this type of thing here as well, killing thousands upon thousands of frogs for a "delicacy". I hope they all die a slow and painful death, just like their victims.

>>

Okay first of all that's a toad. Second, why don't you go tell the WWF about all the cruelties being done to these poor bullfrogs every year? Isn't it amazing that no matter how many times you gig a pond there's always more frogs? It's almost like they're part of some ecosystem and are compensating for the ones taken by predators. But just because it's people eating them it's wrong isn't it?
>>
>>765946
They make fish gigs that are way more sturdy and and I'm pretty sure they sell the heads alone at walmart for like $7.

What if you just want to kill them for the fun of it? Do you really think the raccoons and birds will mind the taste of the meat?

I think you missed the "just the legs" part as well.
>>
ITT: we pretend frogs legs are actually good

It's not worth the effort of eating 500 legs to get less than a quarter pound of meat.
>>
>>765999
Yes. Enjoy the dead frog that's been killed that's sitting in hot night weather and for hours at time. That shit is fucked. The best frog legs are fresh. Learn what happens when something dies.

Snakehead.

Also this is now a thread about people killing there catches and letting it sit in hot possibly humid weather where by time they get it home it's full of bacteria eating the meat that can't all be killed off

Just look around ponds or lakes at night with a good flashlight and their eyes will reflect the light. Shallow bodies of water, 2-3 feet deep are the best since fish are less likely to impose a threat on the frogs.
>>
>>765027
How. Post shit about this, I now want a frog leather bag.

Yeeiss.

Me and friends used to gig frogs at this little place called bandana in western ky. His house was at the T, with a creek behind and ponds all around the area.

Been wanting to go again, have started hearing the frogs again recently this year.
