Saw this "Cafejo My French Press" in the latest Cabela’s catalog (for $40) and thought I’d pass it on.
Clearly, it copied from the Aeropress (one of which I’ve got) but it’s a better design that looks to be more stable and easier to use and cleaner also and can be used with either store bought K-Cup pods or regular coffee in a reusable K-Cup.
Also; Camp Coffee General thread, I suppose.

literally who the fuck do you think is going to carry that around. why would you carry this plastic oversized POS before a french press?

> literally who the fuck do you think is going to carry that around.
I know, right? On my last trip up Chhogori (K2 or Mount Godwin-Austen to you racists) all I took was my Mora and a pair of fishnet Speedos…
> why would you carry this plastic oversized POS before a french press?
Because it’s more convenient and produces a cleaner cup of coffee with no grounds in the mug, compared to a traditional French press.
I’ve had a Coleman Camp Coffeemaker for 10+ years now and it works great, except you can’t leave the propane burner on once the water has boiled off to make the coffee, so everybody better want their coffee at the same time but when camping with friends, this isn't an issue.
>>762934
>more convenient
God this shit pisses me livid
Coffee grounds sink after 3 mins. Just fucking wait for it to settle then drink. I have never drunk coffee grounds when I do this.
0 equiptment needed. Its not fuckin hard.
>>762928
you realize you can use a pot and a filter and get the same result as a press right?
literally remove the pot before adding the coffee.
Also OP that looks like a shitter aeropress
>>763009
>sink after 3 minutes
No, no they don't.
Why do you think there is a plunger in a french press.
>>763114
i dont carry a french press. i said why would you carry that when a french press is smaller and i would imagine better
>>763114
> Also OP that looks like a shitter aeropress
I have an Aeropress and this appears to be is a better design; the carafe locking onto the water tower part is more stable then perching the Aeropress right on top a coffee mug and the K-Cup pods means the water tower only has water in it, making cleaning easier. And for home use, the plunger / pitcher is microwaveable.
>>763116
french presses cool after you pour the water in. boiling the grounds in water has different dynamics
this
>>763009
why are you so upset that noone wants to dirnk poop like that but you?
why do you care?
I use one of these when I camp
it uses a k-cup filter that I refill each time use.
I heat water with my MSR pocket rocket, the pour into the myjo, then pump down into coffee cup. It does take up quite a bit of space, but sometimes you want coffee in the morning.
I usually am camping from my motorcycle
>>764558
dude its literally the best way to make coffee unless you bring a fucking 2k espresso system . All of this equipment in this thread is fucking retarded.
If you're too fucking dense to get the grounds to sink then go ahead and bring a paper filter to catch the grounds and just strain the coffee into an empty mug
literally everyone in this thread is wrong
http://www.scaa.org/?page=resources&d=cupping-protocols
This little thing does an appreciated expresso in a min. with little water.
>>762934
>no grounds in the mug
if you're that booty-bothered by a few stray coffee grounds in your cup, you're probably not the type of person who should be going /out/.
>>762934
> no grounds in the mug, compared to a traditional French press.
Get a better French press.

or you can get a Mokka-express?
These are light, cheap, durable, and work well. I use a gold plated filter with it, but the paper filters work even better. I havw three of these and a bunch of the gold filters all from the thrift store in perfect condition for dirt cheap, less than a dollar. They should be easy to find at thrift stores.
It's also really easy to make cowboy coffee with a clean sock, bandanna, or piece of cloth. Just fill it with coffee grounds, tie it off however you want, and toss it in a pot of hot water like a tea bag, let it steep/simmer awhile stirring it, and you've got hot coffee.
>>762923
I like strong coffee and it has to be Colombian. But I camp light and refuse to take along uni-taster brewer equipment and fiddle around with contraptions. Best thing I have found is little individual instant packets. I use my billy pot that I use to boil water, cook potatoes, etc to boil water for coffee. Use like 3-4 per cup with evaporated cream and some sugar. Really not far at all from regular homemade coffee.
>>764711
Odds are, I was camping when you were still in diapers but I see no need to drink shitty coffee (or eat shitty food or get a shitty nights sleep, etc.) if I don’t have to.
So feel free to make your coffee in a old gym sock, I’m sure it’ll get lots of Internet points…
>>764711
>not just making dirt coffee
All you really need is a strainer
>>764748
yo I got that pot. it rocks

What's the matter with a traditional French press? It's simple and easy. There are simpler ways to prepare a cup of coffee, but in the end it's a matter of personal preference, nobody's wrong.
>>764781
Its a massive piece of equiptment you gotta hike with and it does literally nothing. It was designed as a way of pushing the grounds down instead of simply waiting for the grounds to settle naturally which takes 1 min. Thats the reason people have French presses. 1 min luxury at the breakfast table.
>>764789
Dude it's a can with a filter press. It's not like you're hauling an espresso machine. You can use finer coffee grinds which will result in a richer cup of coffee without using more than you have to. Like >>764745 said, you can make your coffee with a sock, but I'm gonna enjoy my cup of coffee without a mouthful of grinds.
>>764794
i just broke 1 of my french presses yesterday. its a thin and inflexible glass that shouldnt be expected to last the rigors of packing
>>764794
Finer ground coffee doesn't result in a richer taste. I part time barista on the weekend & have been studying/brewing coffee for years. Trust me. Its not needed.
>>764797
My dad has a good one that he used for 15 years, never had any issues with it. It's pretty solid, but don't pack it on the bottom of all your shit in your pack
>>764811
Huh, I guess I've been told wrong. From what I understand, the finer the grounds the more flavor can be extracted (at a cost of being harder to filter)
>>764747
>drinking hot fluid from plastic containers
Do you use aluminum ice cubes in your whisky too?
I've got a Stanley french press, works pretty great, though it's a bit heavy and doesn't make enough coffee for more than a couple people.
>>764797
I wanted to buy this Coleman French press >>762934 as it'a all stainless steel and can be put directly on a stove but it's been out of stock forever, so I assume it's no longer made.
>>764820
ive had them for a long time, and like any glass will live indefinitely in cabinet use. but rough use, no, it broke very easily.
like a previous anon said, the only real thing you need past primitive gear is a strainer. and you can boil grinds in water until the grinds begin to sink
>>764811
>Finer ground coffee doesn't result in a richer taste.
Nonsense, finer ground coffee has a stronger and richer taste, course ground coffee is necessary for a conventional French press to prevent grounds from getting past the plunger screen.
I like my Vietnamese coffee maker, it's stainless steel, doesn't need a filter and was $4 at the Asian grocery store.
Why not just do instant coffee or, or one-cuppers? Amazon carries a collapsable dripper.
>>764964
because instant coffee tastes like poor people with no aspirations
>>764721
Thank you for soothing my autism by posting this picture.
>everyone else in this thread is the problem with this world. Fuck.
I either drink instant coffee or just make tea or hot chocolate when I'm camping. I guess I'm a pleb though because I just use a 5 cup Mr. Coffee at home that cost me like $20.
I was thinking about getting an Alocs Coffee Maker sometime. Heard decent reviews of it
>>765203
hahahahaha
>>764734
>tasters choice
Much better options for instant coffee. Pic rleated
>>765404
It looks like a dentist sink...
This thing is awesome if you have a way to heat water. Can store the coffee grounds in it and just pull the press out and pour in hot water. Press it down, no grounds in the coffee.
I have a Aeropress and additionally I for espresso I use my Handpresso - It's pretty neat but you have to pump by hand up to 16 bar
>teabag
Never had a problem using these, I prefer them for work or school
time to drop the coffee addiction
>>765387
>that moment you notice that you were the biggest problem
Anyone?
>>766740
Yeah, I was about to say...everyone here is fucking hardcore into coffee. People actually hike around with fucking french presses and shit? I just bring some single-serving starbucks instant stuff and it works well enough for me.
>>766742
I'll bring a french press and shit if I'm car camping, but if I'm backpacking, it's some Medaglia D'Oro and my little camp stove. It's way better than any other instant coffee I've tried.
>>766742
