It cost me $100.

It has taken me all over the Cascades and Olympics in Washington, the Wasatch in Utah and has now taken me through the Yukon and and into the Alaskan interior for the summer.

Got this, although a somewhat older model. Shitton of reliable gears. Also put a luggage rack and two saddlebags on it. Saddlebags have room for all my shit including two 1.5l bottles, I keep the tent and sleeping bag outside the bag.

So far my limit has been 130km/day. Not really comfortable if you still have to set up shelter though.

Tennessee walking horses and other gaited breeds are good for a nice, smooth ride. What breed of horse will work best for you depends on your climate and needs. For example, if you have a hot, sandy climate then an Arabian might be good for you. Quarter horses are always a good solid bet, esp. former ranch horses.

'05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7L HEMI. Beaten the hell outta it the past year traveling, but it's gotten me everywhere I need to go for the most part. Just had the upper radiator hose split a seam, but was an easy fix. Only other issues were a new driveshaft and a new starter. Driveshaft was my fault, too much off-roading and beating it up. Love that fucker. 45,000 miles on it the past year and over 175,000 currently and still kickin' and humming like a sexy beast.

For a beater vanagon I wouldn't pay above 10. And that's what sucks about it. I love Type 2's and Beetles, but every single one is treated as if it's some rare gem of a bygone era. Piece of shit? 40k. Powertrain missing? 35k. Paint's fucked to shit, the interior is gone, engine's frozen? 20k.
>>

For 500 bucks that's a steal.

I always wondered if I could live in of these for like a year. It's bigger than a van and more suited for it. I live in Washington and parking lot camping is a lot easier than some other states. I see it done all the time. You just have to use common sense, like not littering and making a mess.

I built this wooden platform for me to sleep on.
Soon as i build some side cabinets over the wheelwells im going to add some carpetting.

Also ordered a battery box that i can screw into the bed in order to add a 2nd battery, and a voltage sensor im going to add by the fuses.
Gonna have 1 battery for starting and the 2nd for my misc electronics.

This is going to be for innawoods and for me to do stealthcamping so i can live by jobsites im working at.

>Did the US ever get the hilux here but with another name?
We got the proper, unmolested Hilux until 1986, when Toyota moved from solid-axle to IFS (muh handling) and removed the diesel option on north american models and from there it just kept getting progressively worse until Toyota said "fuck it, we'll just make a new model" in 1995 and replaced the Hilux with the Tacoma.

Pre-'86 Hiluxes(Hilexi? Hilii?) are highly prized in the off-road community (especially with diesel engines) and even the IFS models are viewed as being breddy gud.
>>
>>767123
What's wrong with ifs? I'm assuming it means independent front suspension.
>>
>>767347
It's much less durable than SFA, especially the type they went with from '86 to '98. Obviously if you're getting into aftermarket you can get outstanding results with enough money but as far as stock configurations and bang for your buck are concerned SFA wins hands down just by qualities inherent to SFA. And considering that the two main selling points of the Hilux were price and ruggedness, that's kind of a big deal.
>>
>>767085
BMW guy here. Its a 540. I live in Florida so this car deals with sandy/dirt/clay roads. I know its limits and I don't try to ford 5 foot deep creeks.
I can pop my kayak on the roof and go for a drive to a river and have tons of fun. I bet this car sees 20x more off road travel than the mall-crawlers and bro-trucks around here.

Only really annoying part is tedious BMW maintenance.

My goal would be something like pic related. The idea of a rally gets my jimmies rustled.
>>
Was thinking about this piece $35k dollaredoos
>>
>>768066
That's all?

Seems suspiciously cheap desu; off-road RVs are usually really goddamn expensive because to get that off-road performance you're essentially paying to completely overhaul (with premium aftermarket parts, at that) a large truck on top of the normal costs associated with buying an RV.
>>
>>767347
Ifs gives you less flex. Also more expensive to upgrade suspension. Also limited to how high you can lift the car

Honestly, it's the cleanest LN65 Hilux in Queensland. Turbo 2.4 diesel, Hilux Surf interior with the bench seat removed. Will post pics tomorrow.

That's a pretty nice picture, but the reality is that if you walk around barefoot all the time, your feet do not look like that.

I see a doctor once a month. It's one of the few places I wear shoes. I'm in chronic pain management, and I just now got a real doctor. Plan on getting it looked at.

I don't know about how it is where you are but here in the UK camper vans don't lose money that much, if you buy one and care for it then you will probably get almost all of your money back when you come to sell it!
>>
>>760616
Campers are way cool but I can't afford one, that is why I bought a pickup and built my own camper on the back of it, there's always a way if you are willing/able to work for it.

I'm super jelly dude, I can't ride any more, my knee is fucked, if I put any pressure on it when it's bent I get bad pain, saw the doctor and a specialist and they told me it's arthritis and that I'm to young for an operation and that in all likelihood it wouldn't make it possible for me to cycle anyway........ FML!

The bike in the pic is the same model and year as my one was.

I rode it from London to Lands End, spent a week in Cornwall getting drunk then rode it all the way through Wales and up the west coast of the UK up and over to John O' Groats and back down to London.

Following year I rode it from London to Barcelona and then over to Monaco (got some funny looks I can tell you) then on to Milan, swung up to Bern and on to Stuttgart, made a dash to Antwerp and then on to Amsterdam before catching the ferry back to the UK and a nice little ride back to London, that was basically June of 07 used up.

I think I might do it again soon before I get to tied up and old!

I can get the surgery but I've had a couple of opinions and they all agree that it would be better to wait, at the moment I can walk all day on the flat and even do a fair amount of hills as long as I'm not carrying too much, but the doctor has told me that he can't guarantee that I won't need a stick after the surgery or how long the joint will last because I'm active and could wear it out needing a replacement after only a few years!!
>>
>>769288
Yeah, that sounds right. Put it off until you're starting to have trouble and hurt. Put don't un needlessly suffer either. Good luck

XR's usually aren't too loud unless you put some retard exhaust on it. A FMF Q series exhaust can tone them down even further. Personally, I'm a fan of the DRZ400's; those engines last FOREVER.

Has anyone mentioned the Rokon yet? 2wd motorbike with drums for wheels? They make attachments for it like sidecar and PLOW. Yes, you can plow with a Rokon.

Ever ridden one?
Slow and inefficient.

Yamahaha makes a plow attachment for a snowmobile too. Just because it exists doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I'd rather have a Ural than a Rokon.

>Select all images with trees.
>>
>>770946

Looks real useful if you have to carry it like that
>>
>>770963
Yes, I have ridden one. I mention the plow for the amusement factor. The Rokon can go places the Ural can't. The Ural isn't anything special (except flakey) unless you've got the sidecar with the driven wheel and reverse.

Rokon's lower center of gravity makes it less unwieldy. You can float it across a lake. You can go farther on a Rokon than you can on a Ural. Slow and steady.

I have a 1994 Nissan Atlas 4x4 diesel. 40ltr fresh, 80ltr grey, solar panels on top, fold out room for extra space at sites. Cost me 35k with only 120,000 KM on the clock. It was cheap because it was down on the very south of the island (nz) and nobody could be fucked driving down there.

One day, one day. Right now I'm just saving for a 3" lift kit and new tires. Damn thing does get around, though.
