What is /out/'s experience with drugs (including alcohol) and wilderness? I was planning on taking mushrooms for the second time later this summer and was considering doing it on a camping trip with a few friends. We would be pretty deep in the forest, at least a day's hike from civilization, but we would be in a large group (8-10 people).
Is this doable or is it an unnecessary risk to take?
I've only smoked weed and drank in the wild. Weed was thoroughly enjoyable and allowed me to still hike and shit, but I had to concentrate more on where I was moving n where I placed my feet n shit. Also you shouldn't smoke weed while in the desert unless you have way more water than you would otherwise need.
Alcohol is something I only drink at the camp when all the days hiking and exertion is over. Still thoroughly enjoyable though. Also advisable to bring an excess of water.

I'm just concerned with something going wrong. Injuries, bad trips, etc. I've been studying up on how to safely trip, but there's always the possibility of shit not going according to plan.

It doesn't sound like you have someone who has experience with mushrooms?
Shrooms in the woods is great, but without a good sitter and any experience, someone may freak out and nobody will be there who knows how to react. Also such a big group might not be the best.
Probably everything will be save and enjoyable, but keep in mind that you climb without a rope here.
If you really wanna do it, take small doses.
Also a good general rule: If you feel umcomfortable with yourself your environment or the people present, don't take anything.

I have used shrooms once before, I was in the forest too, but I took too big a dose and was basically knocked out cold. I know what to expect for the most part, and my friends have more experience than me, so they know how to handle people having bad trips and shit.
In addition I've spent plenty of time in the woods since I was a kid so I'm not too uncomfortable with the idea. I'm also pretty familiar with the area I'm camping in.
I guess I'm mostly just looking for experiences and advice on how to have a good and safe time while taking shrooms in the forest.
I took 2g of shrooms in a light snow storm with high wind so the visibility was nill with my GF, was an amazing time. I would recommend being really comfortable with the surroundings before experimenting with any real mind altering substances because it can go sour quickly and always have a plan

I was thinking of a sort of buddy system, where sober people would basically be responsible for their partner who is tripping. Make sure they don't drown or try to pet a bear or some shit, and to take care of them if they have a bad trip.

I was actually joking. I'm mostly doing it for a mix of the fun as well as some of the things I've read about people using hallucinogens to better understand themselves and in general live happier lives. Not just random hippy crap too, people like Aldous Huxley advocated the use of hallucinogens for the same reason. Scientific studies of the effects of these drugs also show positive results and increased happiness in test subjects with relatively few risks.

Don't stress it and don't listen to people whose ugliness comes from a place of fear. It's nothing to take lightly, read up on set and setting as well as other methods for managing the tone of your trip, but other than that you're in for something special.

I took some magic mushrooms and went mountain biking in the wild. I've taken acid plenty of times but never shrooms; so me and a friend expected a similar 1 - 2hour come up time like there was with acid.
After about 30 minutes I was full on tripping while mountain biking off road. It was quite the interesting experience. Lots of visuals.
I've taken acid plenty of times and but never while /out/, the one time I went for a walk in my local woods while tripping on acid I felt a unity with everything. I felt like the trees, the animals, everything was in its right place like a perfect balanced eco system and I fitted into that eco system also like another animal; not a conscious minded human with worries and material possessions but another cog in the grand machine of the universe. It was amazing.
I dropped acid 2 nights ago and I spent 10 hours listening to alan watts lectures on youtube on buddhism and philosophy while staring at a bunch of fractal pictures I taped to my door. It was quite the mind opening experience and I've come out of it with an even greater disdain for materialism and status chasing; along with the confirmation that my last 7 years training boxing was a total waste of time and my destiny lies in buddhism.
I also learned some more about the universe but I don't even know where to begin.
tl;dr take acid in the wild and you'll feel a connection to our natural state; hunter gatherer and not mass consumer wage slaves spending our lives chasing temporary forms of happiness the advertisers tell us that we want just so we can have approval from others.

the wilderness is the best place to trip. if you can handle yourselves, you will have a wondrous time. i highly suggest taking them at nighttime as visuals are more powerful and often cause actual hallucinations leading to extreme euphoria and hilarious, slightly belligerent confusion. just don't get lost

Tripping on acid with 8 of my closest friends while hiking in a national forest was one of the best days of my life. We all remember it very fondly and it brought us all much closer together. Drugs can be a very beautiful thing in moderation and when used responsibly in the right environment.

I used shrooms while in the woods with 3 mates and it didnt end well. I ended up having a "sad trip" and cried like a baby for 3 hours straight, and 2 of my friends got scared shitless and thought they were going to die. the 4th friend had no problems whatsoever. We all had used it allready 3-4 times. Dont do it in the dark in non optimal weather

Who says I'm not at ease? Why the opposite actually, it's my philosophical outlook that has really sparked my interest in psychedelics. If our perception is simply a result of our brain chemistry, then we can essentially create another reality but altering that chemistry. That fascinates me, the ability to shape the universe by shaping our own minds.
