Any beekeepers in the northern VA region? Starting a hive soon and would like to visit a couple established hives first to learn from experienced beekeepers. Trying to get some Russian bees for their hygenic traits, hear they're kinda agressive though. Thoughts?

Russians are fucking mean. I had one Russian hive and I couldn't go near it without a suit. The main reason people want Russian bees is for their ability to withstand cold weather, everything else is just like an Italian. It's already too late in the year to order a package colony so if you want one you're gonna have to go buy a nuc from someone, or wait til you see a feral swarm.

I'm hoping to get a nuc, going to a local beekeepers meeting in 2 weeks. May end up having to wait until next year though 'cause it seems that most folks preorder their nucs in the winter already.
