Nice. Poland here. I'm getting cold, so I'll teach you how to make Przepalanka vodka.
>>
>>746885
Awesome! I will visit Poland in the next month or two, is it any good for camping?

Would you guys like me to post some other photos from Slovenia?

Can you light a fire? Maybe send pics of it?
>>

It just no cell service and maps won't load the map but the GPS works. I just hike along "sweet, I'm still in the northern hemisphere. At least I'm not lost"

There are a few good areas for camping and it would be cool as he'll... if it wasn't for the retarded law. You basically can't camp anywhere except designated campsites, which are usually right next to major roads and are covered in trash. Fines for camping in the woods are ridiculously high... but I've been camping for years and nobody ever took any interest. Never seen a park/ woods ranger/ guard.
I love me some Slovenian exploration. Show us what you've got!
Now, przepalanka time. You are gonna need vodka, sugar, a piece of bread and matches. A shotglass is useful too.

I can't get a good picture of the process, but you are supposed to make a little mound of sugar on the edge of a slice of bread and light the sugar on fire. Then let the caramel drip into your vodka until it turns a nice shade of brown. Voila, you just made the most Slavic drink ever ( it's supposed to be made of moonshine, but I didn't have any)

I'm sitting on a little concrete bridge and will get going soon, so no time to get fire going - plus I don't want to attract unwanted attention (usual fine for lighting fire in the woods is something around 100-200$)

Awesome ! I will try camping somewhere secluded, I read that wild camping is legal in Poland on the internet but i might be wrong. I will avoid designated camp sites.

>>746925
And okay, fire sounds too risky, I wonder if you can light a fire in a pit to conceal smoke and flames. Cheers my friend enjoy your caramelized vodka, sounds tasty, sort of like a B-52 made of caramelized sugar.

Pic is from the spot I hiked to the day before yesterday. It's an old abandoned machine gun bunker.

You should get an app that lets you save maps offline. I use backcountry navigator.

A car with its headlights off just drove past my spot. Either poachers or someone is dumping trash/bodies in the woods.
Moving pictures from dslr to the phone takes forever.
The fog is up. Deer are barking in the trees from my second pic.
>>
>>746937
Google maps allows offline map downloads also.

Creepy, maybe stalk the body dumpers? You might find some sick loot, just dont forget to not use your fingers, cover it with cloth. Deers sound scary, if i owned a gun i would hold it tight when /out/. Besides that nice setup Polish anon, here are some pics of today's exploration in Slovenia. Was a bit closer to the city but still a rather pleasant area, vineyards, nice breeze good view.
>>
I walked in the opposite direction, circled the woods... and walked right into them. This time I'm sure they could see me, since I didn't dim my kerosene lamp. All I could see was a black SUV. Not many of these in Poland (gas is too expensive). They drove off to an abandoned... umm... place where you dig up gravel and sand. Maybe just some rich kids took dads car and drove to bang in the woods... I hope. I'll stop to take some more photos soon, right now I'm on the move.

Found another bridge, chilled for a while. The meteorite shower is amazing tonight.
No sign of the body dumpers for now, but I'm walking the only road leading out of these woods, so we will meet sooner or later. Next time I'll remember to bring my crappy Yukon gen1 nv with me.
And to the nav guys, I personally use osmand. You can download10 maps for free, and they are really detailed.

Out of the woods and into the fields. I can already see the city lights, should get home in a couple of hours. The fog is getting thicker and the lens fogs up immediately after I take the cap off. I think it's close to freezing.

I'd love to spend the whole night out, but I came home for the weekend and need to get back to my university tomorrow morning.

The only tent I have is huge and heavy and I hate carrying it around. When it gets warmer, I'm getting a hammock.

A flock of wild geese or cranes just flew right over me. Looks great in the moonlight.

Sweet, i suggest buying a cheap tent, I got one from sports direct the other day for 26 Eur. which I think is about 113.56 Zloty. If you ask me its an investment worth while, mine is only 1.7Kg's with the carrying bag.

Pic related its what i got the Gelert Scout.

Make do with what you have, and at least you have it better than Western Europeans. But seeing threads like this makes me appreciate living in North America from an /out/ perspective. We have truly isolated places with no roads or cell service for miles, and you can camp wherever you want.
>>
Sadly, that's true. If you get lost anywhere in polish woods, you just walk straight ahead and I guarantee you will find some kind of civilisation in less than 3 hours. The camping laws are bullshit, the firearms laws are bullshit... At least we can still buy pepper spray, unlike some western European countries.
Also, our politicians realised that it's pretty hard to light the sea on fire and are legalizing lighting campfires on the beach since this summer.

It's below freezing, alright. My hands are too cold to type and I've already packed the camera. I think I will call it a night.
Next week we are having a long weekend, so I might be able to do some proper camping with a fire pit and all. I will need to check out that tent. Since then, see ya, and thanks for a nice evening.

Go with mapsme. It allows you to download entire countries at a time for offline use (no satellite imagery though) and it does route planning. I use it a lot when I'm travelling and want to save data.
