Still something about that kinda gross ocean smell early in the morning or real late at night when the wind is calm and it is 70F but humid as hell.
>>
Dirt, light rain, the wind through the trees when it's warm, all underneath wood smoke.

Nothing comes close

>still fairly warm
>still fairly green
>nights are cool
>leaves, brush, grasses, and ferns are at the end of their lifespan
>soil is changing
>undergrowth is dying
>last of the summer blossoms are brown
>cool dew now settles early in the evening
>frogs and crickets are done for the year
>katydids, slugs, and beetles are active now preparing for winter
>heels in the dirt, gentle campfire smoke mixing with the night air

Cedar. Eucaplytus on a warm day is also pretty nice.

I also enjoy the smell of cow shit (when it's not overwhelming), but that's more from the association of smelling it while I was doing things I liked.

That indescribable smell/sensation in your nose during a heavy snowfall, bonus points for being in a coniferous forest, that muffling silence enhances the experience.

Peeling back a little bark on a Ponderosa tree.

Cows.
The combination of the cow, cut grass, silage, and cowshit. It just smells like outdoors to me when it floats around on the wind.
Up close, it's not so good.

A cedar swamp after a downpour. An area with wintergreen is also nice after a rain.
The smell of red pine is also nostalgic to me, brings back memories of my grandparents.
>>
>>731454
what's a cedar swamp and where can i find one?
>>
>>731456
Deer love them when the weather gets nasty. I hunted one a few years back and ended up lost, got to into following a trail and didn't pay enough attention. Nearly spent the night out there in late December.
As for finding one, depends where you live. I've got several around me. Most will have trees that are only ~15-20 feet tall or so, real gnarly footing, usually moss covered roots with water underneath. You'll break an ankle or leg of you aren't careful.

hmm i think i hoke through some areas like that last summer. my woods has some areas almost like that but not quite. cool shit tho. i live in an area that a few hundred years ago used to be known as "cedar meadow". now there are some large stands of cedar forest still there but it's all different now of course.

pic is a portion of it where it's really swampy. there's a crude snowmobile trail that goes through, which makes for an even cruder mountain bike trail. it does smell piney af tho, but the muddy areas are pretty stanky
