I'm looking for a machete that can take a beating. The CRKT Mah-Chete both looks good and have a 4.5mm thick blade, and a good price point at $65. Do anyone have experience with it?
>>
They are absolutely useless unless you camp in a location with lots of thick bush and wrist or less thickness saplings. A small axe is superior in every aspect.

Also, CRKT makes shitty tools.

Two questions.

are you looking to chop wood 3inches wide or smaller?
>parang.
Machetespecialist [I've ordered through them, they are legit, even though the website screams "GONNA STEAL YOUR CREDIT CARD"] has condors 11 inch eco parang. I'm gonna buy one here soon. but it would be interesting to see someone else on here get one and let me know how it acts/feels.

or

Are you looking to chop grasses/palm fronds?
[a real machete]

I would also like to throw in a little rant. WTF amazon, why is it now free shipping with 49 dollars or more? instead of 35? How the fuck they go from 35 to 49?

Small wood. I was actually leaning towards this paring from Condor.

>mfw my Philipinian coworker sees me looking at machetes and tells me her grandfather makes them
>mfw she will ask how much it is

If I can get a custom parang, I'll pay the man $100. That should net me a masterpiece.

Don't buy parangs from condor. The edge is super thick and the full tang makes the shitty wooden scales break apart. Get a real one or pay a blacksmith to make a nice one.

I have that one, it actually been a great tool to have here in WA. Sire I prefer a combo, silky boy, small knife combo. That parang has been good to me...wish i didn't give it to my friend :(

Not exactly a machete but can anybody comment on billhooks? I've got a lot of blackberry vines and overgrown shrubbery I need to get rid of and I was wondering if it'd work better than a machete since I could use the hook to grab the vines and pull them towards myself.

Not op but also looking to get a machete, it will be used only for bushwhacking through a thick rainforest on the west coast.
Any suggestions or a good alternative(kukri?) would be appreciated lads.

Speaking from experience, Bill hooks are great against blackberries. The tough flexible vines tend to bounce off curved blades but hooked blades gather and hold onto them long enough to cut through. The only problem with billhooks is they tend to be short and those vines tend to whip back and nail you with those nasty infection causing thorns. You want as long a tool as you can handle when dealing with blackberries.

I have a latin machete that I had butchered a little bit for removing wild grape vines, and dew berries [dew berries are black berries, but they are more like ground cover vs a bush. also wild]

you know how a gut hook looks like on a knife? basically I took a grinder, and just made that same shape, but a little longer. towards the end of my machete. 28" long. no fear of whacking my knuckles into them. I lost that machete tho.. [I actually think someone stole it.]

been missing that feature a lot, been thinking of other ways to do the same thing. one thing is kinda like combined bilhook and sickle/scythe

but havent got around to making one, since my grinder got kill. I have the metal to do so. just no tools to work it.. lmao

Get a brush hook or ditch hook

>removing wild fruit plants
why? just eat the fruit

The mah chete is a good machete, its small and light enough to work on some of the lighter vegetation it it can still chop down green wood and thicker vegetation
