I know there was a thread about minerals and rocks but i cant seem to find it.
Would anyone here happen to have any idea what kind of rock this is?
It's pretty light i doubt its even two pounds.
It's shiny on the outside but is dull when cut.
Has a bunch of little tiny holes in it.
And is not magnetic.
I found this out in the texas panhandle around 5 years ago and it was the only thing around that looks similar.
Several rock "experts" have had no idea what it is. One said it may be part of a meteorite but im not getting my hopes up. I figured /out/ may know what it is. Sorry for poor pic quality

I'd also like to mention it does not float.

It'd be nice if you could take a single fucking photo in focus

nice quints though

Quints of truth. Christ OP, keep taking pictures until you come out with one that ACTUALLY HAS THE ROCK IN QUESTION IN FOCUS and then upload that one.
>>
Lead sulfide or galena.

Seriously man, look at the photos before you're gonna upload them. That's one big carpeted blur with some shiny blur in the middle.

Pepsi-san, I've told you time and time again to get rid of that iPhone if you want us to stop making fun of your background-focused pictures.
>>
that's lead sulfide like I said. break a piece off and heat it with a torch and it will turn into a little ball
>>
>>722266
i just figured wouldn't it be heavier? how would i break a piece of it off?
>>
No it's not heavy. It's not pure lead it is a variable composition called galena. If that's what it is. It averages about 2 dollars per ounce and is fairly common. It probably contains some degree of silver and it is a good sign of precious minerals wherever you find it. Use a hammer.
>>
>>722241
thats cheese, you should eat it
>>
>>722286
Looks like galena to me as well. I took more than a few geology courses in college and ended up as a tutor for a small natural resource college in Ohio.
>>
Its definitely not galena, which is fairly dense, and won't have vesicles (bubbles). Galena also has cubic cleavage, so if you break it up, it would break down into smaller cube shaped bits.

Could be some kind of volcanic glass. Hard to tell, because the pictures are shit.
>>
>>722208
if you found it near railway tracks it could be a hunk of slag

Literally the shittiest, most worthless pictures I have ever seen.

I'm actually a geologist, but from the pictures I can't even be sure that's even a fucking rock and not like a dog or a car or something.

To me, it kind of looks like the aluminum leftover after burning thermite.

Now I know you're just fucking with us.
>>
Its not galena. And its definitely not a meteorite. Its also definitely not titanium (in nature, titanium is in the form of bauxite).
If you want to find our what it is, try to scratch it with a knife. If it scratches, then it has a hardness of less than 5. Its a great way to narrow down the possibilities.
>>
>>722208
Are you in the U.P.?
>>
Okay so shit picture is shit, but we can still work with it, so take a streak test, what's that you ask ? well lift your toilet tank cover, and scratch it with your rock, if there's a color we can possibly figure it out.

there are enough photos for identifcation. a true geologist can tell it because of shape, colour, and texture. ... well you people are stupid or just plain stupid.
