I used to catch the Obscure Birdwing Grasshopper as a hobby and serious excercise (for reasons I'll explain), raising them in cages for eventual backyard release (I live in a forested area). And these bugs can fly across a field's worth distance. You have to catch them with the first net swing, and trust me, you'll be running after them for a while before you get good. You have to move slowly through the vegetation, waiting for them to make a mistake.
I got so good I caught ten females and several males in one spot.
Any area with high vegetation is the best spot to go after them. They have a tendency to crash into the plants, giving you the best chance to catch them again. They will breed in captivity.

I raised and bred Madagascar Hissing cockroaches (just one left, I sold most of the colony to pet stores), Mealworms, Flour Beetles (from mealworms), I even used to have a leech. And some leaf eating Stick Insects.

Currently studying Entomology in grad school. I've bred crickets and hissing cockroaches before and I have experience pinning and butterfly wing spreading.
I think I might try my hand at breeding some tarantulas.
You'd find more anons with similar interests on /an/ OP, I don't think this thread really belongs here
