Use a honeybee to sting the bite area right in the center. Unless of course you are allergic to honeybee stings. Honeybee stings are fucking amazing for infections like that. But, only if you catch it early. Also, go to a doctor for god sake.

If OP is Australian:

There's a fucking ludicrous situation in Australia at the moment where the peak medical industry just refuses to recognise that Lyme disease exists in this country. There are people with all the symptoms of Lyme disease, yet doctors will not diagnose it because no conclusive scientific studies exist that prove the existence of borrelium.
So if you're a Lyme disease sufferer in Australia; you're fucked. Good luck getting treatment.
>>
>>710955
I've had Lyme disease before and I didn't know what was worse the antibiotics or the disease itself. You might want to get checked up, though, I know a guy who's mom never did and she's all fucked up.

>>
>>712534
>antibiotics when you aren't sure what it is
That's how you get super bugs
>>
>>712635
that is why you should anti-biotics therapy after you get a tick if you suspect it could have lyme and not wait for the symptoms to develop.

getting it early is way easier and less painful.

think of it like dosing yourself with anti-virals if you are exposed of hiv blood not wait weeks for a positive result.
>>
>>711212
*Lyme disease. I'm willing to bet this isn't OP's photo, it usually takes at least 24 hours to contract lymes bacteria from a tick bite. If he really removed it right after the hike , there certainly should not already have been a bulls-eye rash. If it it actually is lymes it is no big deal caught this early ], a course of antibiotics should cure it.
>>
>>712929
Not too long ago, people felt this way about wolves. Just because we we don't full understand the ecological role of these creatures it doesn't mean they shouldn't be here. Evolution doesn't favor certain organisms over one another. If they evolved to be here, they must have a role.
>>
>>712932
Antibiotics like doxycycline are a tried and true way to cure lymes. Also ticks are just a vector for the bacteria that causes the disease. Read a book retard.
>>
>>712929
Ticks yes. For the most part they are not part of anything else's food chain.
Mosquitos on the other hand are way way more common, forming vast swarms, and also fly, making them a viable food source for birds like swallows, as well as dragonflies and probably spiders and who knows what else. Also fish eat mosquitos in the larval stage.
Ticks could probably be wiped out without the world changing much, but mosquitos are so common and numerous I am positive they are a food source for quite a few things, their removal would have an effect.
I do understand their disease spreading ability, but wiping out a species that makes such a large percentage of the worlds biomass seems like a bad idea.

I've had lyme disease. Paralyzed half my face. Recommended actions: liberally coat all outdoor cloths with permethrin (keep clothes and bottle away from cats, wet permethrin will kill them), wash regularly with teatree soap or other soap with strong oils mixed in (eg peppermint, eucalyptus, teatree, etc). Super satisfying to know that any ticks on your body will die in a wave of minty internal chemical burns. Cheap alternatives to premixed teatree soaps: grab teatree extract, peppermint cooking addative, and eucalyptus extract and add it to a bottle of plain body wash. I just use the trader joes shit though. Also, once you've mixed up some soap, go outside and kill bugs with it. It's good fun.

>icks could probably be wiped out without the world changing much
it does not matter whether the world changes or not.
what matters is that you want to kill because you are scared of them.
>>
>>714679
you say that like it's morally wrong or even unnatural. nothing has the right to exist. the universe doesn't judge things as right or wrong.
>>
>>714681

>>
>>714679
When did I say I wanted to kill them because I was scared of them? I pointed out the potential problems of wiping out any species, as all are interlinked. Mosquitoes have a greater role in nature than just spreading disease. As do ticks, though to a lesser extent. At no point did I advocate wiping out either species out of fear.

Though if you want to go down that road, I suppose you're angry at past generations for eradicating smallpox and polio. "Those evil hedonistic science bastards should have let them run rampant across the globe, damn them and their fear of disease," is what you'd say.
>>
>>715530
you try to justify your fantasy, which fine.

And no I am not angry at anybody.
hedonists will do anything to be pleased and yes, even scientists admit, after post-positivism, that they work to ease the life of the humanity.

What I am saying is that choosing to live because you are scared of being in discomfort is pathetic, which makes you butthurt.
>>
well I'm officially paranoid of ticks now

I'd like to try the permethrin repellent but I've got 2 cats and apparently it could kill them...
>>
>>715589
You do seem angry friend, if you reread our past interactions the negativity is all you. At what point did you come to the incorrect assumption that I would favor wiping out any species?
Perhaps your butthurt comes from pulling such things out of your ass.
However as all your opinions seem to be coming from there, it's understandable.
Whilst we're on the subject of genocide though, you cannot argue that killing for the betterment of mankind is most definitely a good thing. Your willingness to roll over and die when confronted by a threat is what makes you a pathetic example of our species, as much as you'd like to pass that tag onto others.

How dangerous they are depends on where you live. Here they only occasionally carry Borrelia/Lyme, no encephalitis or anything nasty. We're pretty lucky in that regard.

Probably had wel over a 100 ticks myself, but nothing ever came of it. Upside is that I notice them really soon by now, I currently catch 90% before they bite. Ironically, I tend to get most bites while wearing long clothes because it's harder to see them or feel them crawl across your skin.
>>
>>715721

>>
>>713050
if they evolved to be here that means they evolved to be able to survive, not that they have a role. most species have a role, probably. all? probably not
>>
>>710955
Lel enjoy your borrelia
>>
>>715872
The definitely fill a niche of some kind, whether we understand it or not. That is just your opinion, not based on any ecological findings. Obviously there is no goal driving natural selection but it is too powerful to leave behind species with no niche at all. Perhaps their role is to keep populations of large mammals from expanding beyond capacity? Regardless, it is a very bad idea to destroy a species simply because it doesn't benefit humans. Not that we will ever be able to kill all the ticks anyways.

>>
>>714714
Awwww fuck I thought they were pretty uncommon in this corner of the country.
>>
>>710955
the reason why we can't get rid of them is that at least 50% of them are on some animal at some time, meaning they move really erratically and can be dumped anywhere
any flying insect that'd eat them wouldn't be able to catch up to the ticks host because of its smallness, if the insect was too big it wouldn't want to eat ticks

im just spewing out stuff but i think it makes sense

Lyme doesn't always produce the bullseye rash so a lot of people don't know they have it until 5 years later when half their face gets paralyzed from Bell's Palsy and they see the doctor who tells them they have permanent brain damage from neuroborreliosis.
