I commute about 10 miles each way to college on my bike. I am thinking the ride will be more comfortable if I get a cargo rack to go over the back tire for my backpack. The backpack can be a little heavy at times, 20lbs maybe more. Would it be hard to secure it? Is there a better way to do this? $100 price range.

Rack is much better. Get fenders too while you're at it. I like these baskets a lot on my city bike, though a backpack might not fit:

Im in SoCal. The one day per year that it rains doesnt normally sync up with me needing to ride somewhere.

I think am going to go with a rack with a cargo net.

Toppeak explorer is what I've been looking at. Pretty good reviews and about 40bucks.

Here is what I ended up with.

I was looking at that one on Amazon. I got this Bontrager rack at my bike shop for less than $30.

you might want to upgrade to a pannier in the future, but the rack is a good start.

nice job.

He should be able to set up panniers off that.

That looks exactly like the observatory on GTA 5. Right down to the last little detail, even the road leading up to it.

is that a mormon place?

Looks good, just make sure the straps can't get loose and get in the wheel.

When I do that I wrap the straps around the front of the pack and do up the sternum strap, and clip the hip belt around my seat post.

That's because it is. It also looks just like the observatory in Rebel Without a Cause. It's Griffith Observatory in LA.

What tires are those by the way? I can see they're Bontrager but what model?

Its going to take a little practice to get the straps just right.

Stock tires that came with the bike. I do not recommend them, they are wearing out pretty fast. I am a big fan of Continental gatorskin tires.

His tires are fine, tread doesn't matter on pavement.

Your lock on the other hand...
